looks like a fancy toy, however korg is notorious for toyish looking products that do some serious stuff. anyone tried this thing out? i'm interested to know

I used the first one fairly muchly and like it a whole big bunch. Then they came out with the Kaoss 2 or whatever they're calling it and that's supposed to blow the one that I played with AWAY! Haven't got 'round to the 2 yet.

I have no experience with the KP-1, but I've heard that it was a little on the fragile side... the KP-2 is supposedly built better with improved features like more sampling time, etc. The KP-2 is a cool effects device, get one if you can...

Check out the v2 Kaoss. The first version wasn't built as solid.

It's great fun and a great tool. I used to have a Z1 and loved the X/Y pad and thought 'why don't all manufacturers have this level of axis controller power?', then the kaoss came out. Version 2 is very good. At the price it is a steal and has some lovely morphing controller functions.

I've got the KP2 and, truthfully, I never was able to make much use of it. In fact, it's back in its box and on the shelf.
I read all the great reviews so I got one. I tried to place it in my system, but I never found it to be more than a novelty at best. What am I missing?
Those of you who are using it, let me know exactly how you routed it in your system. Are you using it with one synth or across your entire mix? What effects are you using in particular? What kind of music do you use it for? I've always felt like I just wasn't comprehending its application.
I'd love to find a place for it again.

As I understand it, the Kaoss Pad was originally aimed at the DJ scene, where a guy could throw in a weird, spacy effect or sample easily by just running a finger across the pad. I don't use mine often, but only for a special touch here or there, besides, the idea is to give them just quick taste so they'll go 'wow, that was cool', any more and you're overdoing it.
Occasionally I'll run a bass or background synth part through it for an entire song, but keep changing the sound slowly so the part doesn't become boring, but morphs constantly throughout. Some of the features I don't have much use for, like the synth presets, but I like the Delays & SFX presets. Being able to mangle the sound in two directions at once rather than just turning a knob is it's best feature, I feel.
