That's a bummer.

I'm hoping that they pass by my area again. They did that to me in 94. Went to see them 2hrs away, and then right after that they announced a date in my city. At least I got to see them twice that year :D

Ok.. so how many of you VanHalen fans still drive your Camaro and have mullets?

Only the VH fans from pre-1984 are like that. :D

Seriously though, Eddie is one of the most gifted disortion-based guitarists to ever walk the planet. I saw them in Toronto on the current tour and was lucky enough to be 1st row right in front of him. The guy still has "it". Eddie was actually quite improvisational during the show, which was a nice change for once.

Is it true that he made all that stuff up about variacks(< i can't spell)?

I was at that show !

Way up on the side of the stage though. Good concert, eh ?

Not even kinda. NO ONE sounds like Eddie, except for Eddie. His sound is all in his hands, and without his hands, you can not sound like Eddie.

I read a story in Guitar Player back in the early eighties by Eddies then guitar tech. Van Halen was tour as a support act for Ted Nugent, and he was so impressed by Eddies tone that he came to sound check and asked to try Eddies rig. He tried it, and then asked what they had left out, because he did not sound like Eddie.

It is all in the hands, and without the hands, you ain't gonna get it. Period.

If you play a Strat through a Marshall, you can get a Strat and a Marshall, and you will sound like a Strat and a Marshall.

That's about it.

And, for those who think they will sound like Eddie with his equipment, well, how do you think sales departments GET sales?

Just read an interview with Jerry Cantrell in the new issue of Guitar World and he says it all "When we were on tour with Van Halen, Eddie played through my rig one night at soundcheck and it sounded like Eddie." The brown sound is ALL in those hands.

I've been searching for that sound since I started playing and I haven't even come close. He's a one of a kind.

Although, though this search for the brown sound I have stumbled on some of the best equipment. I played a Peavy Wolfgang because I thought it would help and fell in love with that guitar. Sounds NOTHING like Van Halen but holy shit what an instrument!! Also played through a 5150 half stack and that has to be one of the best sounding amps out there. It's incredibly diverse. If only I had the cash. :( Oh well, to dream.

I have a 79 Camaro Z28, but sadly no mullet...

Cool. I had an 81. Last year for the old body style and they changed the air intake on the hood to face the driver.

Stripped it down to bare metal, 4 coats of black paint, dual stainless steel exhaust, headers, etc....

I miss that car. :o

Nice..

Mine has the original black paint and Z striping, which still looks OK.

My first car was a 71 Mustang Fastback, I still miss that car....
