anyone recommend acoustic gtr amp?

I am wanting to get a very nice acoustic guitar amp,
so I don't have to rely on the soundman putting me in the
monitors & not being too loud for others in the mix!

I would use it mostly in church or when gigging around town.
Anyone got some good suggestions for a good amp?

TRACE ELLIOTT!! 100 watts, about 1200 bucks, and sound to drool over.

And a DISTANT second, neck and neck -
Fender Acoustisonic Jr. (about $450)
SWR Strawberry Blonde (80 watts, about $750)
Peavey Ecoustic (100 watts, about $450)
Carvin Ag100 (100 watts, $450).

How about a Raven PMB-1 ( www.raven-labs.com ) blender and a Mackie SRM450 powered cab? The EQ's in the blender. You could use the cab as a monitor and mic it into the board; add a small mixer and you have a prime gigging unit, add a second cab in a year or two and you have a killer P.A. - 400 watts apiece and great clarity. Think ahead...
 
I have an Fender Acoustisonic 30.... quite a nice little amp!

Roland JC 120 - Great clean sound

You might look at some keyboard amps because they are generally more full range and might give you a cleaner, fuller sound.
 
Treeline is correct about the Trace amps, they are the best there is for acoustic. I do like the Fender, just for the low expense and availability.

The Fender Acoustisonic Jr. is a great little amp. We've had one for a couple of years. I use it not only on guitar, but for electric violin and it sounds really good.

My only gripe about the amp is that the reverb is only OK. It is not the same type of reverb that Fender puts in some of their other amps. Other than that price/performance is really good and we don't use the reverb for recording purposes anyway.
 
I have a Trace Elliot TA50R the 50 watt jobber that is the little brother to the 100 watt. It is by far the best acoustic amp that I have ever used for portable sound and vocals. I play many weddings and small gatherings with just an Acoustic and Vocals. The little 50watt screams and is about the size of a toaster oven. It is the loudest and cleanest amp that I have used. Get one quick though, I heard a rumor that they might be going under. I got mine for $450.00 from a guy on EBAY in mint condition. They also have a built in DSP for Reverb / Delay.

Also has and XLR (Lo-z) in on channel 2 with phantom power. I can't say enough about them. Except they cost a lot.

On the Trace Acoustics! Never heard anything better but they are pricey at retail. Very light, small and portable with big sound. I think you owe it to yourself to try one out if you can find one locally.

Treeline's idea also sounded good.

Flexability and easy upgradability are always attractive to me but I like to put things together and find new ways of doing things.

I like Treeline's idea also. No matter how many bells and whistles you add to a combo amp it's still not going to give you the sound size and flexibility of a PA-type set up. Of course, if your use is going to remain humble then the combo amp is fine.

I do like my Fender Acoustasonic, though. Fills a room nicely and very good at eliminating any feedback. Pretty good digital effects, too. My biggest complaint about it is that you can't add monitors or other additional speakers.
 
I like your Acoustisonic too - the SFX. I made some large irritating noises fooling with it, as I recall. Mind if I borrow it for a couple of years? Maybe three? Just checking....:D

Yes, I know what they are. The term itself just strikes me as peculiar. I'd put that one just under "military intelligence" and "athletic scholarship" on the oxymoron list.

Has anyone here played the Carvin AG100 http://www.carvin.com/cgi-bin/Isearch.exeCFG=2&P2=AG100D&P1=GA?
I generally like most of the Carvin stuff Ive gotten my hands on, but not being able to play it before I buy it is a HUGE drawback. Cables, stands, raw materials, I might take the chance, but not a guitar amp and definatly not recording gear.

To be more general, does anyone here have any Carvin recording gear? What do you think?
 
My friend that had the Trace unfortunately had it and a guitar stolen from his home.

He opted to replace it with the Carvin becuase of the price and he got married and his wife sang. This amp has three mixable inputs including one taylored for microphones. It was ideal for doing some coffee shop and or bookstore kind of gigs. It definitely was not as rich as the Trace but he does like it.

Carvin has a 100% no questions asked guarantee and they honor it. Don't be afraid to try one out. I returned a custom ordered bass and they gave me great service and I have bought some power amps and bass parts from Carvin since then. I don't think most people here would rate them high in recording quality equipment but I don't know for myself.

I get the feeling they are several steps above Peavey in quality but not considered Pro Level for recording.
 
Don't know where exactly "Deep Blue Sea" is, but Carvin has a few retail stores from Hollywood to San Diego, California.

Or get their very comprehensive catalog and check the acoustic amps out. I've tried some of their electric and bass amps and they are good value for the money.
