Here's a new song with an entirely new mixing style for me. It's a tad quiet cause it's unmastered, so i had to add a quick/sloppy bit of compression so I could bring up the levels for this. Rest assured that the mix compression you hear is not final by any means. THanks a lot for listening.

Listened...I don't like the sound of the kick drum. This might be a bit reverby. Everything else sounds good though. The screams are pretty good as well.

Alright, the kick was definetly a problem that we heard. What did you hear about it that you disliked? I think make it a little thicker/heavier sounding and maybe bring it up.
I seriously have an over-reverbing problem. At least I can hear it on this one. Sometimes it's just too much and I hardly notice. If you have time/energy, get nitpicky, I learn so much from everyone here.

Theres no bassiness to the kick, it just sounds like a click. How did you mic it? And with reverb, use it sparingly or else your mixes will start to sound muddy.

Well I miked the bass with a D112 and an SM57 on the beater. I think it's just a matter of bringing up the 112 and that should solve the bass drum problem.
Considering I'm 17 and not a single person over 18 was involved in this recording, what are your thoughts? You don't know how much it means that you simply said that it sounded "ok", that's more than we could have ever hoped for.

Personally, I'd like to hear this before you added the "quick/sloppy" compression. Really, what's the point of that step? It just makes it harder for us to give you accurate feedback. If it's quiet, I have no problem just turning the volume up.

The drums are really pumping from the compression, and I hear a lot of ugly distortion on the cymbals especially. The track overall has a very harsh, overcompressed sound that's hard on the ears.

Yikes. Looking at the waveform, I see almost a solid line! No wonder it sounds like there's no dynamics.

The performance sounds rockin' though. I agree with the reverb comments, but sounds like you guys are doing good performance-wise. Just let the mastering guy do the compressing.:)

Chris

Oh Im definetly taking it to a mastering guy. Right now we are thinking of Studio B here in Charlotte. And rest assured that there will be NO overall mix compression from me when i give it to him.

Also keep in mind that terrible cymbal distortion is common with those 128 kpbs and lower mp3's. You have to pay mp3.com if you want to load higher quality mp3's. Thanks a lot for your comments. You could hear pumping on the drums? Any idea what part that sticks out the most?

Why not use nowhereradio.com? You can upload any quality mp3 you want over there - plus your listeners don't have to go through the hassle of registering.

I couldn't agree with you more on that, Chris.

I have tried to register with them and it just doesn't want to work for me.

I get an e-mail telling me I am a member but when I go to log in, it doesn't recognize my user-name and password. Maybe I am just stupid or something and am missing some minor detail that is stopping me but, I am only having problems with that site and no other.

There are a few people here on the bbs that use MP3.com and I can't a hear a thing they've done.

Sorry to ramble. :(

i thought it sounded pretty good...id have to agree with fattmusiek...i dislike the sound of the kick verrry much. i liked the mix and jus overall balence with everything, but i have young inexperienced ears i guess...

i love the song by the way, just awesome

check out this song from a band that i'm recording, and tell me what u think...totally different style, and im sure u wont like the song. has no vocals yet...

Sorry I didn't listen to it. I intended to but every time I go to mp3.com I have to fill in that damn form & I'm sick of it. Haven't they heard of a database?

You saying you have a problem with NWR?

You saying you e-mailed me?

Interesting, what address? I've received lots of mail (no server problems for 7 months), but no mail from anyone saying they are having that problem.... I reply to EVERY email I receive.

P.S, the other guys were talking about MP3.com problems, and recommending NWR because it doesn't have that problem!

Good performance on this tune. Everything was nicely played, and tracked. Sound was definately muddy because overcompression. Try using a Peak Limiter to bring overall levels up if you have one.

If you take it in to be mastered, rememer to not only have NO output Comp, but also to keep the overall output below -3db.

NWR

Hi there,,,
Im not moaning about NWR mate,,i LIKE NWR ! HONEST !
Aye,,,i had mailed a coupla times but obviously you never got them. Odd huh? I honestly couldnt tell you what adress i used to mail you, just whatever the link on the site is.
Its now been so long since i could get into my 2 artist area bits that i cant even remember what the details are.

At the time i did,,but i wouldnt allow me in.
As far as i know people can still hear the songs.
Its just me that cant get access to the control panel bit.
Is there anything you can suggest for a poor illiterate,
memory lapsing fool such as myself?

Cheers
JimmyD
ps,,,my 2 artist names ar Monsterpop and Just Another Dream

Wow, I will definetly go to NWR. I've never even tried.

Now I don't understand why some people have to fill out a form on mp3.com and some don't. I have downloaded mp3.com songs from multiple computers and never had to fill out a form. I just click "download" under the song title. That's really strange.

Thanks for the comments on the song, I'll make sure that the mix is no higher than -3 dB.

I'll load my future stuff to NWR. Expect a better version of this song on there too.
