I notice that some of you are talking about Sonar 4. What changes are in the works for Sonar 4 that you know of?

hopefully they fix those damn envelopes :D

They've already stated that they'll take care of that in a patch before 4 comes out.

It's a very long thread, here is the link: http://www.cakewalk.com/forum/tm.asp?m=144304

If you don't want to read all 16 pages, the bottom line is that they finally decided to issue a patch prior to version 4 coming out. I don't think they have given a date as of yet.

As for features in SONAR 4? Well, I'm willing to bet ther will be a metronome. I'm also thinking there will be improved implementation of the "freeze" function and that slip-editing will be there. A lot of people are asking for clip muting. Cake isn't saying much, but I'm sure we'll find out in the next couple of months.

Awesome! I'm glad they're fixing that problem without charging us for it!! I ran into that problem when automating my UAD plugs.

Also, don't they already have slip-editing? What is it I'm doing when I'm adjusting the boundaries of the clip and where the audio falls in the clip?

I'm actually psyched for a metronome!! :) Are you just guessing, or did you hear they were really doing this?

I can't really believe that you can't use the existing one except for during recording (maybe you can and I'm just a moron). I'd also like to SEE the metronome - with a blinking light on the beat, which would really help when you start to lose the metronome underneath the mix.

yeah i would think they would/should. I was mostly just making a crack in response for the HUGE issue. There is a lot of wining about on the cakewalk forum as well, and rightly so.

Hey Ted, are there plans for a better freeze function? Would it replace the archive function? I think that would be a sweet new feature as well.

I probably should have said it differently. I think that they're looking for better implementation of the feature. More like it is in Cubase.

Cakewalk hasn't been saying anything, but if you want to know what users are asking for, here's a link to a huge list of requests: http://www.cakewalk.com/forum/tm.asp?m=105821

Who knows which ones will make their way into SONAR 4?

Boy, I don't have time to look it up, but I'm pretty sure that someone from Cake has stated that there will be an AUDIO metronome. The one that's there now is a MIDI metronome. The only problem with that is that some people don't have any MIDI devices in their arsenal. There are a bunch of ways around this, but as minofifa has pointed out, there is a lot of whining on the Cakewalk forum over it.

I'm just speculating on what they're going to include. Their statements have been very non-commital. Where I think we're headed is to a tighter integration between their different apps. More and better plug-ins. I'm guessing that we'll see some new features in the audio engine. I wouldn't be surprised to see enhanced audio editing features.

Publicly, they've only said that we'll be very happy with the improvements.

Cakewalk has come a long way. I've been using their products nearly from the beginning (when they were Twelve Tone Systems and Greg was probably the whole company). It always seems like they're the underdog, but with every release they get just a little closer to the top. Judging from the frustration you hear from some Cubase owners, Cakewalks greatest strength seems to be their customer support. They price their products fairly, offer a lot of functionality and back them up with patches and upgrades.

I'd be surprised if they don't have a surround implementation in v4. Not useful to me, per se, but gotta keep up with the competition... I'm sure the other added features will be really useful, whatever those happen to be. There are/were some decent user recommendations. Just think -- all this time Steinberg has been sweating over patches and patches of patches, Cake has been developing v4! :D

I think you're right about surround. I forgot that one. I was surprised it wasn't in 3.

I have no idea how they're going to parse that list. And I'm sure there are other things that they have in mind that aren't on it.

One thing I think we'll see is more bundling of Roland/Edirol sounds/software with SONAR.

I want a beat detector and a transient jump feature for editing, and to be able to double clik a track and edit in a pop up window instead of having to increase my viewing size from track view.

Cakewalk have also indicated that they are looking to implement REX2 file implementation for re-cycle loop/slice importing.

Having a Metronome would be worth the upgrade by itself :)

I hope they get rid of the Track View, and use the Console View as standard...

:D :D :D

I hope they won't make a Sonar 4 at all. Just fix the bugs.

Don't need to spend upgrade money once again, but you guys will and then focus here will be on S4, S3 will be all forgotten and you can't help me any more.

As to the metronome. There is that annoying metronome I always forget to switch off when I open a downloaded midi file and the make an audio track for recording it to cd. So my hope is they will remove all metronomes in the next free upgrade. Or at least allow me to set defaults to be no metronome, unless I specifically ask for one.

... well, yeah I guess it's another metronome you talk about, but I don't know what.

Ron Kuper and Greg Henderschott, I guess.... And probably Moskus and Dachay, but they won't let on....

;) Q.

I'd like to see independent soundfont folder...

;)

I think they are working a deal to take over PRo Tools from Digidesign and they are going to incorporate everything they have for an upgrade price of only $39.95 to us Loyal Sonar 3 users. but the street price will be $14000.00
which includes HD 3 Accel System with PT Software, Core Card and 2 HD Accel Cards ;)

Sonar is such a bargain!!!!

LMAO :p

haha. console view sucks....

I am running two monitors, track view on the left and console on the right. I find the console view to be helpful at times.

It gives the client something to look at which is familiar to them. :)
