I'm considering buying either the StudioPro 3 or the StudioPro 4. I'd like to get the cheaper of the two simply because of finances, but it looks like the extra hundred bucks will pay off in quality.

Does anyone know the quality of either of these models? Is it really that much of a difference? I'm not really sure what all the specs mean on that page.

Or does anyone know of a similar product within the same price range?

This is my first set I will have bought, and I realize that once I get more into recording I'll need to upgrade. But I just want to have something decent for now. Thanks in advance.

some used BX5's go for around $180pair.
for the M-Audio, active/powered too.

bx5s are on closeout at a few places still (NEW) for $200. on ebay they shouldn't be more than $150.. but for some reason they are. i got a pair of the bx5s used for maybe $160 shipped and they were in perfect condition and came with trs & xlr cables so i went for it.

a 3" speaker is incredibly small, your low end will be completely out of control with those

AA, I haven't heard a thing about the Studio Pros, but I've seen a couple of positive reviews of the LX4s. Personally, even if money's an issue, I'd save up the extra money since that 2.1 sub will make a Huge difference in sound. Remember, too, that the street prices will be much lower than those MSRP prices listed. Froogle them to find out more. If the money's too tight, also consider the Tascam 2.1 system for $99. TapeOp mag recently gave these cheapos a susprisingly postive review. By all means, hear all of these monitors before buying, if possible, since personal tastes vary a lot.

M-Audio seem pretty solid. I have the BX5's and am very pleased with them

I play with another guy who uses the Bx 8s. I haven't used them extensively but what time I have spent on them has not been pleasent. They seem extremely hyped in the highs and low end, part of this may be his room but my gut instinct tells me it has alot to do with the monitors themselves. Not sure how the other models hold up, just wanted to toss that out there.

I've been using BX8s for about 2 years and never had a problem. Solid sound, pretty flat responce and the bigger drivers are nice. I did blow the tweeters (My fault) and they replaced them free of charge and no questions asked

m-audio don´t build them hisself.

I am not sure but ESI do the job for them and have nearly identical monitors with his brand too.

i don´t like m-audio. They are doing the same like Behringer. Their build quality is a little bit better but that´s all. Same concept.

Good story about m-audios 5's . I had been using a pair of these I got for $200 at GT and I was very happy for a long time. Just a few days ago I thought it was time to upgrade so I tested my mixes that I made on the M-audios on KRKv8,Event 20/20s, And Events Precisions(6.5"). I thought I would be completly un happy with my past mixes, but they were more or less in the right place. This led me to belive that those little blues guys were tell very few lies. I have decided not to sell them because of this.

Good Luck

I'm a big BX5 supporter, too, but I highly recommend adding a sub. I had a lot of trouble while guessing about the low end before adding a sub, but now my mixes are translating very well. 5" woofers can only do so much.
