Hi All: I got my new computer! I couldn't figure out how to run the Delta 66 soundcard, so I brought it to the shop that built it. They said they didn't know much about it, and sent me to a recording store. The owner talked very highly of 66, but cringed when I told him I had Cool Edit 2000. I told him I could upgrade tot CEPro, and he gringed again. He went on about the soundcard wouldn't shine with CE. He suggested, for $300, a recording software called Samplitude. He said it blows away anything out there, and a local big time SF Bay area studio just dumped pro tools for the pro version. He is going to load a sample version and show me how to run the 66 tomorrow. Anyone know about this? No one has claimed their lunch yet! Thanks Walter

the classic version

$300 gets you a platform-independent upgrade to sam classic but you can't upgrade from cooledit (you need pro tools or logic). sam pro costs about $900. so exactly what is he offering you for $300?

If he cringed about CEP, then he's an idiot or he's just trying to sell you something else because he doesn't have CEP to sell you.

CEP is now Audition by Adobe, an excellent program. It will run you about $250-$300. $150, if you're a student.

I don't see how he's selling Samplitude Classic for $300 when everyone is selling it for around $500.

i use Samplitde 7 and it definitly is the sh!t for audio...if your heavily into midi i suggest you look in to Sonar or Cubase YMMV

I spent all day with the owner of the recording store installing and learning how to use Samplitude Master 6.0. This is a discontinued version that this guy has. The US distributor use to be out of our city, so there are quite a few people using it. One of the biggest studios here dumped their $14,000 Pro Tools for the Samplitude system after doing side by side tests. The owner of the store is a certified tech in pro tools and swears by Samplitude. After using my computer, loaded with it, in his shop all day. I was convinced to buy it. It really is something compared to cool edit 2000. I also have a live person to consult with and he has the system on his store mixing board, so if I have any questions, I can just go in and show him the problem. I am tired of trying to figure out all the "hows" to get to pushing the record button, and have it work. He set up my delta 66 soundcard too. I took it home and was able to record some stuff off my DAT recorder. I am going to start having fun soon! Thanks for all your help guys! Walter

I haven't been into Midi Music in a few...how's Mike doin'?

Mike is doing great. I feel very lucky to have a guy like him available to help me learn all this computer based stuff. Do you live in SR? I live in the downtown area. Small world! Walter

it works

I just recorded myself as a 1 man band, 4 tracks live-vocal,guitar,bass drum, high hat. This program is unbelivably easy to use and the sound results have knocked me out. It is like working with a real mixing board and tape! I am really excited about this program! Walter

Here, Here!

Just chiming in for Samplitude! I have been using it for about 4 years and I love more than my family!

Congratulations on finding your way to one of the best kept secrets in audio. Yes, Samplitude is a phenominal program, and many pro studios around the world are using it. Some have Pro Tools rigs also, but quickly win their clients over on Samplitude. The sound quality, due to the superior algorithms in the code, is a cut above anything I've tried, and it was the only program that convinced me to record and mix in the box.
The version that you got, 6.0, is when the developers turned a long time great audio engine, with a somewhat counter-intuitive interface, into a really usable program with the same depth of features as before and more, but a much more intuitive interface.
I had owned previous versions, but 6.0 is when I fell in love with it and started using it full time. Eventually you'll want to upgrade to the current version.....there's a ton of new features, but 6.0 will keep you plenty happy in the mean time, and there's still a lot of folks using that version. Make sure you hve the last of the last version 6 release...I think it was 6.05. You can download it at www.samplitude.com. Also, there are some good user groups at www.sekd.com and at audioforums.com . Ask about getting alternative skins for Samp.
With the Delta 66, you have the same setup that I had with Samp 6.0 . Since then I've started using Lynx for conversion, but I still have the 66, and in my opinion it is a damn good interface for the money. Even compared to the highly aclaimed Lynx converters, the Delta 66 through Samplitude stands up quite well, and is capable of delivering professional quality recordings.
Good luck, and have fun.

Great to hear others talk so highly of it! I will do the download and get back to having fun. The guy I am working with on this also said this is the best kept secret in computer recording software. I am about to get into the Room Simulator. It looks like a lot of steps, but the manual is easy to follow. Walter
