Damn, I heard awhile back that Beyer made a really nice ribbon mic, and I went to look it up and they have about 100 mics. I didn't know they had such a selection. Anyone know anything about thier mics? Preferably ribbons or good drum mics. What about mic numbers?
Thankee...

I was looking at them myself.M88 is suposed to be a exc. drum mic,the M130 fig.8 ribbon is a very nice mic .The price I've been able to get so far for the M130 is 530.00.

Bruce, What about Royer ribbon mics for guitars? Have you tried a Royer on a guitar amp? I was look at the Beyer M160 and noticed a $600 price tag on it. My question is are Royer mics as good or better then Beyer for recording amps, and is it cheaper?

Bid, man, bid :D

(*.*.*.*) :p

No way to answer that one.... the Royer 121 is excellent... but mic selection is a personal, subjective thing... what works for me may not work for you........

I've got a Beyer 160 that I use occasionally...but actually end up using other mics. As already probably known, it is advertised for stringed instruments...more in the violen shaped family, I would suspect. Hard to beat a $75 sm57 for ALOT of stuff, imo...especially for guitar cabs. The Beyer has a low output comparitively, but that would be inherint in many ribbon mics. The M500 was another popular Beyer mic also...good on horns, vocals, and stuff like that. I think that the Beyer was a good mic "in its days"...still is now, but there are MANY good mics out now, that it is a tad hard to justify spending the $$ on the NEW price for mic such as the M160. I'd look around for a decent priced used one, if interested. They are kinda cool looking though...black body and all :-)

Just about any mic with the Beyer name on it is worth checking out...

M201's are great snare mics, as are the M422's...

The ribbons rule...M260's, 160's, and M500's are all very useful...

M88 is a great vocal and kick mic...

Beyer Soundstars look like 421's, but are much cheaper and tighter, in MHO...

The Soundstar that looks like a SM58 is a cool mic for screamin' vocals...

Love that company....
