Anyone here use a Yamaha Motif with external sequencer?

I've got a Yamaha Motif-Rack ES that I'm trying to get working with a PC running Master Tracks Pro 6.x (sequencing application).

I'm not able to get Multis working on playback. I can't figure out how to set everything up. One channel plays at a time, but that's it.

One thing. . . my PC is running Win98. The Motif's Tools CD requires XP. I figured the utilities on the CD were strictly for editing and such, but I'm beginning to suspect that until I get that downloaded, I'll never know for sure whether that's the problem or not. I'm either going to have to spend the money on an XP upgrade or, since it's an older PC I bought on the cheap, on a new Dell or something inexpensive (and inherently risky) like that.

I'm a Mac user so spending all this time, effort, and $$ on a PC is bumming me out. But since I find it most convenient to sequence on the PC and record on the Mac, that's the way it's going to continue to be.

But back to the original subject. . . The Motif Forums site is almost useless. So if anyone here has a Motif that's successfully working with a sequencer, I'd sure like to talk to you about setting it up.

But I'm not sure I fully understand your problem. Are you having problems with layering sounds on a single midi channel or are you having problems getting a full 6 or 8 or 16 sound arrangement going at once from the Motif?

You are right when you say the Yamaha Motif software is for editing and such but it also offers a simple sequencer. And where did you get the idea that a new PC with XP would be 'inherently risky'?

Getting multiple voices from the Motif. I'm so lost now that I've given up. I'm ready to take out an ad in the local alternative paper advertising free beer, gas, and $50 to the first schmo who can set my system up for me.

Not a New PC with XP (necessarily), but a Dell. They're cheap for a reason!

I'm no motif user either, but a multitiberal synth is a multitiberal synth.

Everything will be piped through one midi port over 16 (or fewer) channels. They synth will need to have a multi set up so your lead will be on midi channel 1, brass on 2, drums on 10 etc (you probably already did that)

So from your computer, just make sure everything is coming out on one midi port and that should be it. I think the problem you have is that you cannot control all the programs in the multi from the local keyboard unless you have splits set up

What are u using as a sequencer?
