I remember the Akai MG1212.
It was a really expensive item when it was new. It retailed for $7k US.
From the articles I had red about it, it was supposed to be a very well built and great sounding unit that used dbx type I noise reduction and recorded 12 tracks on a proprietary 1/2 cassette that was basically the same size as a beta video cassette but, was loaded with 456 equivalent audio tape and only available from Akai.
I guess if you were handy and into doing it, you could take empty beta shells and load the tape yourself?
I believe the mixer section also included balanced inputs with phantom power.
The only semi-cheesy part of the unit was the shorter 60mm channel faders.
As for the Sansui or, "Sansewage" as was popularized on an old WKRP in Cincinnati TV show for Del's Hi-Fi. Anybody remember that?

, I have no experience or knowledge about their stuff.
Cheers!
