I'm looking to replace my P-100's,and I'm checking out my options.Does anyone have a guitar w/minihumbuckers,and if so how do they sound? Are they an appropriate pickup for hardrock/metal?

I have used Seymour Duncan hot rails and like em alot. I 've only put them in the neck slot though. You can get a nice blues tone or a "burbly" type metal solo out of em. As far as bridge pickups go I cant really help ya much.

I put the hot rails bridge pick-up on my Strat and it sounds better than the original pick-up for distortion, but I like the original pick-up better for clean…soooo…there seems to be a trade off.

Have you put in a series/parallel switch? I've got the hot rails and use series for distortion and parallel for clean (brighter and somewhat lower output)

Nope, just replaced it with the original…same wires and all. The original had a fuller clean sound. More harmonics, overtones, whatever.

I had a Les Paul black beauty over 15 years ago that had mini humbuckers in it, they were Bill Lawrence pickups... dont know what model they were, but they sounded good, just like full size humbuckers...
I didn't have any other Bill Lawrence pickups to compare them to, but they sounded as good as the full size humbuckers on my other Les Paul...
