Anyone have issues with the SIS 730S Chipset for Audio Recording?

I'm getting ready to build a Small PC DAW and one of the Mobos I'm looking at uses the SIS 730S Chipset. Eventually I will be using the ST Audio C-Port for recording on it. Has anyone had hardware issues because of this chipset?

Thanks!

I haven't heard any reports about issues using Athlon chipsets from Sis for recording like there have been with chipsets from VIA.
It isn't a great chipset though.
From www.anandtech.com (a highly respected hardware site)

"While we did expect lower performance in 3D applications and games out of a UMA platform like that 730S, there is still no excuse for the degraded memory performance we saw here. If you factor out the integrated graphics and use an external GeForce2 GTS card, the 730S was still 10% slower in 2D applications and up to 25% slower in 3D applications."

It is really a budget chipset with the emphasis on price and not so much on performance.

Something to take into account I think.

the motherbaord i have right now has the sis735 chipset(ecs k7s5a)
the only problem i had.. the motherboard started smoking ;) LMAO but no the main problem, my delta wouldn't work in any pci slot but number 5.. in any other slot...windows wouldnt even start..

look into Nvidia chipsets

I recently built a Spacewalker SS50 for my DAW, it uses the SIS 650/961 Chipset and a Delta 1010 and I have no (noticeable) problems yet.
:D

Thanks for the replies!

I have heard the VIA K_133 Chipsets give probs too but are generally OK after the 4 in 1 Driver Update for the Chipset. I'm not looking at a MOBO with them though. I'm ruling out the SIS Board now. Doesn't seem like it has enough guts.

I just recieved two sticks of 256 MB PC133 SDRAMM Memory today from Tiger direct. $24.99 a stick. So, I'm looking for a MOBO that will work with this RAM.

What I would prefer is a MOBO that will work with both SDRAM and DDR-RAM for future upgrade. The only MATX MOBO that I have seen do this so far is this one: http://www.biostar.com.tw/products/mainboard/socket_a/m7vig/index.php3 Any comments on it?

Wow, that's an very well featured motherboard considering it's a Micro-ATX. The first I've seen with both sdr and ddr. I'm pretty sure you won't find much of those.

The chipset is the VIA KM266, that's the KT266A with integrated video. The KT266A is a good choice. Good memory performance.

For maximum performance, use an AGP videocard instead of the onboard thing.

I never dealt with Biostar products so I won't comment on that.

Yes I think it's one of the best featured MOBOs I have seen in that form factor. And very well laid out for installation. Systemax Computers uses that MOBO in their Low/Mid level Duron/Athlon puters. I just bought used Systemax Mini ATX case and upgraded the power supply in it to a 300 watt PS. That's why I'm looking at the MATX boards.

BTW, I always thought SiS was a pretty lame manufacturer... but Tom's Hardware Guide (www.tomshardware.com) has nothing but raves about their new chipset, the 648. They even go so far as to say these systems with DDR are faster than comparably equipped Rambus systems. Of course, it's a P4 chipset... I dunno about their Athlon stuff.

SiS has also released some Athlon chipsets that are up to par to say the least.

Yeah the 735 chipset is getting rave reviews from what I'm finding in my reseach on this.
