Peavey ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've been using Cubase for a year now and I'm getting really comfortable with it. I was just wondering if anyone would be interested in talking about how to do interesting stuff with it.

I mean, its a pretty complex program if you dig into it- there is still SO much that I don't know about. I just thought I'd open a thread to explore it a little.

Here's a favorite of mine.

I use the LM-4 for drums and I laboriously program them to be as realistic as possible. I like the drum editor so I have it set up as a drum channel. Works great for writing it a tweaking it.

Then when I am done and its as perfect as I can make it, I change it back to a midi channel so I can use randomization. I'll put a 10-20 point range on the velocity and several hundred point range on the timing and see what it sounds like. It doesn't really humanize it, but it does help break up the monotony of the machine-like precision.

Anyway, I just thought I'd see if anyone would bite at a thread like this. :)

Take care,
Chris

Very interesting there.
I just starting using Cubase (VST 32/5.1) for only 2 months now. I have to admit that I need to spend more time in the manuals though!

I'm just curious: How do you prepare your multi-track recordings for mastering?

This is how I do it:

I use the "export audio" function in the master mixer section. The open a new song and save it as "PREMASTER_*****".

Then I open up Dynosonue plug-in in the master effects section and master that... export audio again into a "MASTER"AIF.

Is this effecient, or should I be doing it another way?

Hi Bowisc,

That's pretty much what I do. I'm not sure there really is another way- just export the whole song to a 2-track "premaster" and run it through Cubase (or any other program) and do your final tweaking.

Does anyone use the groups in Cubase? I love them to death. Its great for mix automation. I'll typically run all the backing vocals through a stereo group and add any effects there. Then all I have to do is move one fader for volume swells and such.

I wish I could route an effect output to a group so that I could further process it, though. I'd love to figure out how I could use the EQ on the output of a reverb plug. That would be easy with analog gear. :(

Anyone else wanna hop in on this thread? :)

Take care,
Chris
