I was thinking of upgradeing from my 1010lt to the 1010. I was wondering if anyone had and experince and noticed any diffrence in audio quality. I know if there is a diffrence it is going to be very minimal, but I just can't handle the cluster of wires from my 1010lt anymore. I am guessing the unbalanced vs balanced would help a little. Oh well and opinions would be apprecatied.

I have used both 1010lt and 1010 -although the specs are better on the 1010
i think m-audio specs are b.s. to start with. the 1010 will sound a knats ass better but its still a mediocre card.Save your money for something better than the 1010.People will say "yeah but a lot of people have used one sucessfully" Well, a KIA is great transportation for a lot of people-sure beats the city bus or a bike. The problem is m-audio tries to convince you that you're getting a m3 BMW but its really a KIA.You wont see a 1010 in many pro studios. Its a demo level card as is the 1010lt. The cables should'nt be a problem on the lt.-just hook up your mixer and mics and leave them set up.

Well for some one like me who only has 500 to spend what would you suggest. I know the improvement is minimal at best, but it still is an improvment. The diffrence between lets say motu and a 1010 is still going to be very minimal.

The Echo Layla3G is an option, or you can find the older version used for around $300. These are supposed to have better converters than the 1010.

i agree with chadsxe. what would you suggest? when badmouthing a decent product, always give your alternative choice in or around that price range. as for the 1010, i was told that since the converters are in the box instead of the card, it would be quiter if you have a bunch of computer noise. less wires at the base of the computer is also a bonus. personally i was thinking about getting 1 or 2 1010lts and calling it a day until i could afford enough for an upgrade.

If your software choice uses asio drivers then check out emu 1820m.
I guess i'm bashing m-audio too much,since i still use a 1010!Personally i was
never impressed by the sound. RME will cost a little more but i think it will be
worth it.It is definately better stuff. The devaluation of the dollar vs. euro now
makes them expensive. Also lynx will cost more but you will find them in high end studios. For a reason! I still say its not enough of an upgrade to justify the cost. Also,I have not heard the 1820m yet so my suggestion is to research it.

I'd question whether spending $500 for a marginal sonic improvement is worth it.

If it was me I'd be looking to keep the LT and spend that cash on a nice dsp effects card like the TC or UAD1

Well I am using Sonar4 and it does support asio drivers. Even with that said there still not the greatest drivers in the world. I want to know my stuff is going to be super stable and with M-audio's drivers it is that.
