Hey people? I've basically been recording music for my self for quite some time. I've been posting stuff up here in this board for a while now and have gotten some good feedback on most of my tunes. So I was thinking...now let's suppose I've got these tunes and I want to send out demos to various places... Um...now what? How do I know what songs to use, how many, what stuff to include, they say contact a music lawyer, is it a waist of time, am i going to get screwed if i ever signed? Should I have a live show first? I just don't know anything about this...Do you guys?

My most recent tunes are up on my site, and some of you have probably heard some of them, but they're at...

Any help or first hand experience would be great!

I am downloading a tune.

In the meantime:

Probably:(

I think you mean "Waste" of time:) . No, it is not if your stuff is good, and you are dealing with people you do not know.

Where are you planning to send them? 99% of Record companies do not accept unsolicited material.

Should I have a live show first?
Yes. Only a handful of people can sell Cds without shows (depends on the type of music.)

I have your tune on now, very nice, good job. It is the one at the bottom, with the doo-doo-doos. Do you want other people to sing it, do you want to be the artist, or the songwriter?

Good stuff. Not exactly the stuff that is on the radio these days. I would guess you would have to do a grass-roots thing, like going to Record stores, internet stuff, fliers, you name it. If you do gigs, have a friend sell the CDs, hand out fliers, all that grunt work.

Nice job, I will check out the other tunes when I have time, good luck.

excellent...let me know what you think or if you have any ideas...

thanks!

The next step? Contact local indie labels, recording studios, play a few tunes for them and see what they say. You have a good sound, commercial ready, so I would think you might find a home with an indie label. Keep in mind, it's hard to get a contract for material already released on the net. If I were you, I'd forget about getting comments from people, you should know you're good, take to the next step, try to get signed, sell some cd's, etc. Good luck!

Homeuser: Thanks for the advice...I think I need to establish some sort of live act from what I've gathered from other sources. I hear they're typically not too interested in a band if they don't play live, which I currently don't. Thanks again.

The bigger the label, the more likely they would want a live act. But indie lables sign artist all the time that don't tour or do live shows. Looks at the majority of the electronic music scene, don't tell me all of those guys are doing their one man shows. :)

Start big and work your way down, if you're good you'll eventually find someone interested. But no doubt, getting a live act will 100% HELP!
