Anyone have a great Bass DI?

I've been searchin' around on these forums and have seen a few good recommendations: Sansamp, Whirlwind, Avalon, and so on. I was wondering if anyone has come across anything stunning or over-the-top as far as bass DI's go. I'm looking for something that will really help the bass cut thru nice and crunchy and give it some character rather than just a sub-like presence.

7602 -if you happen to want to include a pre, eq, clean/color/and nice saturate' options. :D
 
I quite like the GT Ditto. It is essentially the Brick without the mic pre. Discontinued after the Brick was released and can be found relatively cheap used on e-bay -- @$150 or so. It's a tube unit and the gain is adjustable with loop bypass so you can route your bass to your amp as well as DI.

Or of course... the GT Brick... a Ditto with a preamp
 
You will find a lot of support for the Sansamp, but it did nothing for me when I listened to the bass in the mix. I have been wanting to try out the A-Designs REDDI, it gets a lot of love over at GS.

You might look into an Aguilar tone Hammer, it's not horrible on the wallet.
If you want to spend more money, look into a REDDI.

I don't own either but I've been playing bass for 17 years, and I've had both recommended to me often.
 
LaChapelle 583s. overkill for a bass di, but it comes with an awesome mic preamp built in! :D
 
i had access to the Avalon thing for about a year...everytime someone came in with the Sansamp Bass Driver di it would blow the Avalon away...and usually bipassing all the electronic amp simulation stuff.

the only other DI i've heard that sounds ok is the DI in the API 312 thing from Averill.

everything else makes me want to use a mic...but there are about 100 DI's i've never used. :eek:

Thank a pantsful for all the suggestions! I think I might go with the Sansamp RBI I'm reading plenty of good about it, and being a bass player myself i see this as something I can use out side of the studio too. Thanks Pohaku.
