Hey, I'm considering picking up the Darla 24
from Echo. I'm looking for a card that has
clean audio and a breakout box with at least
4 outs. 1 in is fine for me, since I run
everything through the same mixer anyway.

Currently, I have a AKG C3000 large diaphram
condenser mic, a Spirit Folio mixer, and
Cakewalk software. The weak link in my setup
right now is my SoundBlaster Live card. Just
wondering if anyone could shed some light on
if this card might help me out. And if not,
what card will?

Also, I'm getting a really good price($245)
and the card comes packaged with a Special
Edition of Cool Edit Pro. Both of these
things are big plusses. I don't want to
spend much more than $250.

Thanks in advance,

Dan

Musician's Friend has a sale on all Echo cards right now - I thought about getting the Gina for $299 myself. I haven't used any of them, though... $245 sounds like a pretty good deal. - And you should be able to tell a difference in your recordings as it's a 24 bit card rather than 16 bits.

Dan... I think Jim is on the ryte page here. Save a few more clams and get the gina. You will prefer the mobile breakout box. Cool edit pro (the special one they include) is in with all of their packages I think.

I've used the Gina, and it works great. I would go with the Darla 24 though over it. The Darla 24 has balanced I/O, the Gina does not. You should get the same software with either package.

From some specs I just read the Darla 24 also has a break-out box, but does not have S/PDIF IO (if you need that).

Keybuffer,
I think that is the big difference betweent the two systems: Darla is unbalanced with Dgital I/O and the Gina 24 is Balanced w/o the Digital I/O. If you do not have gear with the digital I/O, then the Gina looses it's advantage. I wish they would just mak one box that has balanced I/O and digital I/O. Although the Laya does do that, it also comes with more features and a higher selling price.

Well, I don't need the digital I/O, so I'm
really leaning towards the Darla 24. Unless
anyone else can lead me to a better card in
the same price range???
