Anyone feel like critiquing a newb's first recordings?

Just finished recording my first tracks with a friend's band. Not quite done yet, just instruments, no vocals. Also, the bass sounds weird, but that's how the dude likes his bass to sound. It comes out of his amp sounding like that. It's punk/metal (sort-of), so if you hate music like that, please don't hold it against me. The bands name is Malias. Comments, suggestions, anything? Thanks! Tear me apart!

p.s. just for fun, try to guess my setup

Not bad. Kind of cool in a lofi way. The bass actually reminds me of my rick with GHS Contact Core strings. The drums sound like a minimal mic setup.

It’s got a good feel to the recording. Live and loose. Sounds like it’d be a great band to jam with. The arrangements hit me as needing a vocal or lead gtr. The gtr sounds close miked at the amp, while the bass and drums sound more distant miked. Maybe more effective eventually to go for a bigger, more close miked sound on everything. Panning sounds good as the arrangement is… if you had more low end on the bass it’d sound great mixed in the center.

Cool songs. Guitar sounds pretty good. The drums and bass sound pretty bad. As mentioned already, the bass could stand to be more centered. Off-center bass sounds sort of weird. The performances are pretty good. I'd like to hear these fixed up some.

Critique my Shit!
Punk / Crunk / Christian Rap :D

Sounds like fun, loose jams.

sounds pretty cool man. the bass drum seems to be lacking a bit, but other than that i like it. sounds like the whole thing could use some low end as well.

yeah the bass and bass drum both sound bad. i don't think i can really do anything about the bass, as that's just how it sounds. he likes it that way. the bass drum is my fault though. I tried taking the front head off of my rogers holiday kit's bass drum, and sticking the beta 52 in there. it sounds shitty. have to try something else. setup was as follows: mxl 603's as overheads, es-57's close on toms and snare. beta 52 on bass drum. akg d112/direct feed from the bass amp, but the direct sounded so bad that it was eliminated. es-57 on guitar amp. all recorded at the sime time with amps in isolation boxes, and drummer in another room with a window looking in. all run into a digi001, with various rack equip. event tr8 monitors. thanks!

you could try using drumagog or something similar to trigger a kick sample, since it's already recorded..... i dunno
