I sort of remember the Shure, but at this point you'll know more than I once you plug it in. Looky here though..

(Google..

That's all I was able to find too, but I didn't post since I assumed that the original poster had already googled the mics. If he didn't google before posting here, shame on him for asking a question before doing his homework. ;) I'm not trying to start a fight, just making a suggestion before future posts.

The 585 and 565 are close cousins, IIRC. I've used the 565SD and the 585SB. They are both pretty close to the SM58, but less boomy and I think a bit more open in the high end. They are pretty much identical except the awful connector on the 585SB.

I'd use either over an SM58 on pretty much anything the SM58 can be used for, with the caveat that it doesn't have nearly the off-axis rejection of the SM58, so you'll get a lot more feedback in live use. :D

The 585SA is slightly different in that it is high impedance. It is probably worth modding it for low impedance use since high impedance mics tend to not handle long cables well. That said, it would probably still be reasonable as an alternative to the SM58 for recording purposes.

Note the wiring diagram. The 585 low impedance configuration just omits the transformer, omits the ground wire to one side of the capsule, and wires the switch so that when "off", it shorts the signal pins to each other. :)
