I've always had problems with headphones and drums....the click track has to be so loud that it bleeds through the mics, and you can still never hear the click because the drums are so loud, aside from the fact that having the click that loud is killing my ears.

I've looked at the different "extreme isolation headphones" and even the meterphones. the problem is that they were 100 bucks or more. the meterphones didn't isolate enough.

in our rehearsal studio we have some of those gun shot ear protectors (and a pair of the drummer equivalent of them by vic firth) they keep a good amount of sound out....so I tried putting the little earphones (you know the ones you get with a cheap disc man) on and then the gon shot things on too.

AWESOME!

it seriously works so well. no more headaches from the loud click for 8 hours straight. you can REALLY hear the click and monitor mix.

the vic firth things were $20...i think the shooting range ones were much less. the ear plugs we 1.99.

Great tip! I might just try using the earbuds with my big headphones over them. If that doesn't work, I guess I'm heading over to the parents to dig through the gun closet for my old shooting range ear protectors.

Great idea! Plus if anyone breaks into your studio, you can shoot them and your ears will be protected.

Great idea! I saw an article somewhere a while back that had some scheme for wiring up protector phones to be headphones, but your method is much simpler and easier.

Falls under the category of "wish I'd thought of that."
