Peavey ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Y'know, it takes a while to get to know a new piece of gear. It can take even longer to get into the intricacies of new software.

Well, I've had my Digi 002 since November, and I finally feel like I'm settling into it. I'm a sucker for a control surface and the switch from the Tascam US-428 to the 002 was fairly easy. Moving faders kick butt when you're scrolling through banks looking for a particular track.

PT's editing style has grown on me a lot, too. All in all I'm pretty darned happy with my "upgrade." I can still use SX (now with 8 ins and outs instead of 4 in/ 2 out) and I'm hitting my stride with PT LE and the 002. Its a pretty sweet laptop recording solution, IMHO. Not as portable as the Mbox or the 428, but sounds a bit better (to me) than the 428 and is more powerful than both.

Anyone else out there happy or unhappy with their Digi stuff? I've read a lot from folks who bash Digi (all over the place, not just here), which is cool, but I was hoping to converse a bit about the day-in-day-out use of PT and its hardware without having to compare it to other stuff necessarily.

Take care,
Chris

I love my Digi stuff (I have both an MBox and an 002). I love my Pro Tools stuff SO much, in fact, that I'm STILL WAITING FOR A DIGIDESIGN FORUM. :)

I think we'll be lucky enough to see one soon. There have been at least a few requests for it...

I've been using Digi 001 for just over 6 months and I'm pretty pleased with it.

I like the editing interface. I'm pretty happy with the features and what not.

I do have my minor beefs with it... but nothing that bad.

Seeing how it was initially a "Mac" platform application, it has that whole "everything is proprietary and very expensive" thing goin' on... so that's kinda annoying... (i.e. plugins cost a bundle, hardware costs a bundle, etc.)

Also, it is kinda sensitive with my PC, so I've had some compatibility issues....

but over-all... I like the performance and results that I've gotten.

Turnip,

Both the Mbox and the 002, eh? Cool! I was concidering getting an Mbox to throw in the bag with my laptop for remote recording, but I'm a little gun-shy.

1) The 002 is portable. I just don't want to have to buy a case that costs as much as an Mbox to check it as baggage when flying.

2) They use different versions of PT LE. I was waiting to see if that is fixed with PT 6.

3) I've got another USB pre that does exactly the same thing with Cubase SX and I can just import the WAV files to PT later for editing. Doesn't sound as good as the 002, but most of the stuff I'm doing remote doesn't care that much.

Do you use them with the same computer? Do you have to install your plugins twice and all? How do they sound compared to each other?

Take care,
Chris

lol....

yes... we know aboot the Duck....

We'd just rather hang oat here.

The Digi 001 or 002 is not even that expensive in Norway... ;)

I recently found out that all the whining on the DUC about PT LE not having a Video Frame timebar is pretty much silly. I imported a movie and it played back with VERY accurate sync. I had no problems timing audio to video events.

So I don't have a timebar that shows what frame I'm on? I can click anywhere on the timeline and SEE what frame it corresponds to easily.

Its pretty cool, really. I hated trying to get the sounds, effects, and automation I wanted in Final Cut and Premiere. Now I just import a tiny version of the finished video edit into PT, import the existing sound track to an audio track, and I can have at with all the plugs and editing tools in PT.

Nothing like treating video voiceover with RenComp. A little MaxxBass does a great job fattening up crappy lapel mics, too.

When I'm done, I just export all the audio back to a .mov file (as audio only- no video) and take that file back into the video editor. Line it up and, voila, great sound completly in sync with the video.

Why do folks complain about not having a video frame timebar?

Canopus: 10,000?!?!? That's for a TDM rig: DSP on a seperate card. PT's prosumer version costs WAY less than that and runs natively. The Mbox, at $500 for the interface and full-fledged recording software is not expensive at all- I paid that much for Cubase SX alone. The 001, now that they've up'ed the track limit to 32, competes nicely with other interface/software solutions. The 002 is a good enough deal for the i/o and automated harware that you get, along with the software and a snazzy plugin package. I don't see how PT maintains the rep of being outrageously expensive for the prosumer market. I thought it was a good deal, at any rate.

Take care,
Chris

"A basic Pro Tools|HD professional system starts at just under $10,000 USD."

I guess I was looking at the wrong product :)

Still damn expensive though.... :)

checking in.

Just thought I'd check in and make my first post a "I use Pro Tools" post.
I use the Mbox with an ibook 800. Just got it a few weeks ago so I'm still figuring out my way around, but so far so good! I have a feeling I'll be posting some songs to the mp3 clinic soon.

i'ma about to get the digi002Rack.. i'll be using it with PT and Nuendo

Hey C9,

That unit does look sweet. Be careful if you're on PC, though. They aren't doing PC support for the 002 rack until the PC version of PT 6 (finally) comes out. Slated for mid-year, I believe, but I'll wait until I hear the good reports roll in before upgrading.

The ASIO drivers *should* work for Nuendo, though. Minus the MIDI, though. I mentioned on another thread that I got the MIDI fix for the ASIO driver off the DUC. If anyone needs it, email me and I'll send it out.

Take care,
Chris

Lovin' My Digi 001

Just got a Digi 001 last week. I can't believe how easy everything is all of a sudden. Arming tracks, syncing, importing. It's like a whole new world. I used Logic Gold with a DSP Factory & C-Console for 2 and a half years & I spent more time figuring out why things wouldn't work rather than making music. This thing is GREAT! I'm not seeing any signs of all the horror stories you read about PT with Windows. Maybe i just lucked out. Anyway, I'm a happy camper!

Feeling a bit lonely now that I bailed out on the Digi002 and got a MOTU 2408 and Digital Performer instead. I was gonna get it right up to the last piece of advice.

Digi 002 is a great studio in box but not expandible. I needed something I could build on to and not have to change the core equipment. Thats why I got the system I did. DP is fine, I'm just getting used to it. Its a lot harder to use than Protools. Way too may windows for my liking. Its kinda like a cross between Cubase and Protools. Ive got Protools Free version on my hard drive and every so often I open it and sigh. Such a lovely user interface... My first experiences of recording was on a Protools system in college so Ive a big attachment to it. Might get LE yet.

You've gotta love Protools. If I could afford it I'd go straight for Protools|HD. Some day...when i make my fortune!

I've had a digi 001 for a few weeks now and I love it. I was using some ghetto programs and importing wav files from my standalone recorder into the computer.

Pro Tools is so much simpler and effective. Now if my engineering skills will improve to match!

I have a Digi001 (LE) system on my PC, and a MixPlus sytem (TDM) on my Mac. Anything I say about Digi comes out pretty biased since I used to work for the company, but I rely on it more than almost anything but my guitars. It's the interface I learned on, and the setup and windows just make sense to me, when I compare it to hardware.

Hey Charger,

I've used both TDM and LE systems, but not enough to know:

Do you notice a significant difference in plugin sound quality between the 001 and the MixPlus?

I was never able to put the systems head to head. The MixPlus I worked with was running through a Neve (!) and the LE system is my own 002- which is NOT running through a Neve. 'Nough said.

I'm also editing some narrations generously donated by a fairly well known artist and recorded on his TDM system. I opened the files in LE and...wow...crisp, clear, clean. I don't know what signal chain he was using, but just the quality of silence in his voice overs blows away what I've been able to get. Maybe that's just that my rooms aren't treated that well at all...

Any other observations on the differences between LE and TDM?

Thanks,
Chris

I'm really liking my PT LE set up a ton.......using a G4 w/ a firewire drive.....I don't have a ton of time on this really but I'm thinking that the difference in quality between TDM and LE is only different if your doing sesions in higher sample rates. For example HD is better because it's at 96k....or i think it is anyway...I've opened sessions in both TDM and LE and the only thing I noticed is that some plug ins can only be used with TDM. So, when I opened it up in LE it had some plug ins that were just sitting up there inactive.
