anyone else have drop out issues with sonar?

So I have sonar 8 pe. I love this daw, I've been using so long that I am real familiar, but I have had alot of trouble with drop outs, and crashes and such. I have been hearing alot of other people have had tons of problems with it as well. I was just wondering if anyone else had these problems and if you found a fix. If not, what daw do you guys recommend for a noob. I want simple, capable of vsti-ezdrummer and such, don't run my cpu to death...unlike sonar. Please give me some suggestions guys.
 
I have tried reaper. I didn't really understand it as well as sonar. I want a daw that doesn't suck my ancient cpu dry. I have a intel centrino duo processor, and 4 gb of ram, I haven't upgraded my hard drive so i still have a 5400 rpm hdd. It seems that sonar just sucks me dry, I don't know how reaper is. Price isn't really a big deal, i just want a daw that will allow me to run some real time effects, master with ozone, run some midi drum tracks using ez drummer.

I think that the fix for all of your problems is to move on from your ancient PC. EZDrummer, guitar emulators, and Ozone are hogs for CPU power on any DAW.
 
I have used Sonar for many years. I have allways had trouble with Ozone and decided to change mastering software. Have tech setup a to hd raid or get an upgrade. I did see an improvement with a 10,000 rpm raptor but now i have a a raid setup with 6 gigs of ram and a 3.2 duo. also max out on your ram. I will still get a drop out once in a blue moon but still love sonar and will most likely never change.
 
I used Sonar for a while... I like Cubase much better - If I didn't get Cubase with my interface I would be using Reaper. I don't think it would take long to pick up Reaper if you already use Sonar. At first it's confusing but watch a couple Youtube vids on it and you probably pick it up in 20 minutes
 
Upgrading your HD would help, and probably upgrading to X1 if you wanted to stick with Sonar. I have fewer dropouts with X1 than I did with 8.5PE.

What OS are you using? Lotta problems with Vista and audio.
 
I am using xp, i think it is just time for a new computer. I was looking into gaming pc's. With either a intel i7 or amd phenom II x6, with like 12 gb ram. I may take a look at the new "Sonar" x1, curious. I heard that they complete re-designed it though. I don't wanna have to learn new software, I wanna record lol. I don't know, I might as well learn a few just to see what there is I suppose. I love my sonar, but who knows, maybe i will find something out there that makes me drool alittle more.
