Anybody want to critique my composition?

That's not a version of that song that I'm familiar with, but yeah, that's what we've been referring to when we compare it to a spaghetti western.

Other than the buzz (which I'm sure can be addressed) I'd be more than happy to use the sound you got on anything that needs a classical. It captures the essence of the nylon strings very well, and IMHO, a "perfect" classical sound isn't 100% necessary all the time. As long is it has that lovely nylon vibe, and is recorded well enough to bring out the articulation, it's good by me. You could mix that sound in with just about any pop or rock song.

NIce tune and nice playing...it doesn't remind me of a sphaghetti western by any means...sounds very classical as you mentioned in your original post....but it is a very nice tune with some very good playing...I'm very impressed...good job. I listened with headphones, and if I cranked up the volume, I could hear the buzz, but if I listened at a normal, comfortable volume, I couldn't hear it.

I can't wait to hear it when you've completed it.

I see where I'm infamous...interesting....don't let that detract in any way from the compliments I've given you...they were all sincere....

signed, the "fireflyva is infamous around these parts"

Well, it looks like it wasn't a regular member who negged you as my rep turned it the other way (as the baptist said to the barmaid).

All it takes for a newbie is one mean-spirited post for him to be infamous. Just be nice when you first get here and you can gradually be more mean when you get here! LOL! (to an extent. We can tell if you're joking or actually being serious) :D

I saw your first 10 posts were sorta mean-spirited. That's a big red flag. We don't want to deal with someone like that for the rest of the time here.

But thanks for the listen and words!

Yeah...I had to go back and find my previous posts...yeah, they were mean spirited...joking that got out of hand...anyway, nice tune, nice playing, good work....if you're in Abingdon you're right down the road from me...I'm in Radford....again, nice job.

Oh, Radford! Cool man!

You in school, or is that just your town?

I went and looked myself and saw that I was involved. I don't remember this guy. Hilarious though. He really lost his mind in that thread.

Well, glad to see you back and less antagonistic.

I saw your one post in the Mp3 clinic with a song called Not This Time. You should have left it up and not edited it out. I thought it was pretty good. I can edit the link back in and bring it back to the front page. Let others listen and offer up some sugestions.

(Sorry for the diversion in your thread, Crows!!)

First a question. What grade sandpaper are you using to polish your nails? If you don't know what I'm talking about, that's a problem. You say classical, but I've recorded classical guitar masters and they have a technique they use to reduce those squeaks and noises from your left hand technique. They should not be there. Those sounds are more indicative of country music. (Listen to the soundtrack from Texas.) That being said, you did a great job of capturing your sound. You didn't mention your mike or your preamps, but the tracking sounds fine. Good Luck.

I just use a filer. My nails are pretty short. I don't like having talons for nails. I think the squeaks are brought out from the compression. Compression is not your friend with classical guitar.

I used an SM57 and an ART pre. Went into a MOTU 896, and compressed in Garageband.

I'll be using a SCM for the next recording.
