Flamingo!
Here's a classical guitar song I came up with in a day. I'm far from done. I have to make it more interesting and more challenging/complex. I need to add bass notes and a more fit melody. This is just a base.

Thoughts?

By the way, what's causing that f***ing buzzing?! I recorded near a computer and I think that might be why.

Typing as I listen....I can't relate, so I have nothing of value to say, as usual. But it sounds okay to me. Sounds like the part of a spaghetti western where the protagonist comes across his slain loved ones and he breaks down right before he goes on a rampage and fucks shit up. :D

:laughings:

It's a shame there's that buzzing, because I really like the tone I got from the guitar. But it's usually piece of cake to get from my classical.

It does sound like a good spaghetti western tune... I can't unsee the images that Greg put in my head!

I like your vibrato- fast, but not too wide.

What kind of guitar is it?

Nice tune! It'll sound great once it's fleshed out a bit

Thanks guys!

It's an old classical from the 1910's. There's no label and that's unfortunate. I wish I could know the luthier.

Hey VHS, I've always wanted to know, how do you link a Youtube video to a specific time?

And the buzzing is much more prominent when listened through headphones.

Right click on the video and click "copy URL at current time"
Or just add "#t=43s" (replacing 43 with whatever number) to the end of the URL

Hey Fritzel. Nice chops, mate - very impressive! Looking forward to hear what you do with this. The buzzing sounds like you had an amp on in the background. I can hear your breathing, but I guess you'll hold it when you record for real?!

Haha! Breathing I don't mind too much. I guess I'll have to use a different mic. The 57 was just not getting enough gain so I turned it up quite a bit. I'll experiment with other mics.

Thanks for listening!

Tough to say without knowing more, but adapters have been bad news for me when tracking.
If you're tracking to a laptop, unplug the power pack etc. I think it's called "ground loop hum" or some such nonsense.

Nice choperoonies senor!

I like the guitar sound you got too. Good playing.

Just a bit too much reverb for me personally.

And I'm on phones and I can hear the buzz easily.

Thanks guys!

Well, I tracked the guitar with an SM57. I got a very low signal so I boosted it with a compressor. I don't know. I feel like it takes way too much gain. I'll try some other mics. The guitar sound is so good, I feel like it's really hard to make it sound bad with the mic and mic placement.

Yeah too much verb and too mid rangy. Needs bottom. Sounds mono too. Do you have two mics? Try stereo, you'll like it.

Yeah a compressor will bring up any little buzz from a bad cord or overhead light. Use a pre-amp.

Never the less, fine guitar playing.

Aye, the 57 is completely wrong for your guitar. Too honk-ish and not enough clarity. I would never record an acoustic with a 57, I don't care what anyone else says. It is the wrong mic to capture the nuances of an intricate instrument. period. There are some people on here who say it's okay to record an acoustic with a 57 and they are full of .... Let me ask all those nay-sayers... Would Henry use a 57 on an acoustic??

As for the composition. You need something to tie it all together. A reoccuring melody line brought about in different fashion throughout the song. Bring out more of the highs and lows of the story you are telling. Dynamics. It's an instrumental, so no words to convey which means you've got to do it with your fingers and heart. It's an instrumental, but you want to take the listener somewhere.

You've got the chops on the fretboard, so no worries about that. Now tell your story.

cool mannnnng.

Thanks!

Yeah, I'll try my other mics and see which one works best.

I'll certainly be improving the song as well, as it could just be like "where are you going with this?" in certain parts.

The composition is really cool. the buzz - sounds like the sound a CRT gives in the vicinity of a single coil PU.
57 take heaps of gain to get going. Mine is not my go to mic for thta and other reasons.
Have you any Naiant mics? they are amzing for just this application - esp the stereo matched pairs on the stand he sells. I don't have a pair but have heard recordings. I have 2 diff naiants & love e'em.

I'm looking at the mics right now. They look cool, and cheap! I'll look into them. Definitely going the sdc route now. If only I had a nice large room to record in. I could go into my living room with its massive cathedral like ceiling..... lol
