......this guy? Just wondering if anybody had tried this Mastering service. All the terms and prices seem pretty reasonable compared to a lot of others I've looked up. I'm thinking about getting a sample of his work on one of my tunes and was curious to see if anybody could save me the time and effort if they've got any horror stories or anything. Thanks.

He doesn't list any gear or show the facilities. It could just be some dude with a DAW at home. They offer a free mastering demo. Couldn't hurt to try.

Personally.........I would stay as far as possible away from any duplication house offering "mastering" services.

Quote from their site...

What is Mastering?

Audio Mastering is the art/science of assembling individual songs into a cohesive album. ALL comercial releases are Mastered. The steps taken and/or tools used in mastering vary from project to project, but in general can include:

Noise Reduction
EQ
M/S manipulation
Multiband Compression
Sidechain/Bandpass Compression
Overall Compression
Limiting
Dithering (always)
Relative Level adjustments between songs
Fade ins/outs
Track Spacing
Input of PQ codes (see below)

Some of the things Mastering can NOT do are:

Remove Distortion in individual tracks or the mixdown
Remove excess reverb or effects
Change the left/right location of one instrument in the mix
Turn a bad recording into a good one

WTF!!!??

hehehe

Peace...

I guess I was just hoping I had found one I could actually afford. Should have known better:rolleyes:

What do you need to have mastered, and what is your budget?

Exactly - if you're that interested in actual mastering - since mastering is even needed necessarily unless you need something so ubelivably professional which means you must have a 75,000 studio or more - and if so why do you care about price?

So only a major studio production merits mastering, eh? There might be one or two people around here who disagree with that.

i guess you stuck up asses wouldn't call it 'mastering', but whatever that step we home recorders have done to the two stereo tracks after mixing is called sure makes it sound a lot better and loud. i know you guys don't like that word, but making a recording louder (compared to the mix volume not compared to metalica) does make it sound better. i've never needed something to be 'unbelievably professional', nor do i have a $75000 studio...but what i call mastering does help even though the places i go to are cheaper.

those of you that have experience and are actually really good at this, keep in mind we all start somewhere. and we all want our music to sound the best it can given the limitations of equipment, experience, and budget.

hmmm, sounds like there's been a misunderstanding somewhere in this thread!

i'm correcting myslef.......i said engineering when i should have said tracking/ mixing.......i don't believe the problem was with the mastering.
