I'm checking audio solutions for my friend he basicly just wants to record one track at the time to make demos of his ideas. One of the cards I had in mind was Audiotrak MAYA44
http://www.audiotrak.net/eng/index.html

It's not a 24/96 card but I would like to hear your comments ;)
The mic preamp thang would be very handy for him.

Specifications:

4 In / 4 Analog Outs with with digital S/PDIF Output MAYA44 Connections

1 Mic In / 1 Headphone Out

3ms latency (ASIO) or 1.5ms (with Sonar)

Mic Preamp with Phantom Power supply

Active Filtering for extensive dynamic range

Optical/Coaxial Digital Output

AC3/Dolby Digital/DTS throughput to external decoder

DirectWIRE® Audiorouting

E-WDM drivers for Windows 98/ME/2000/XP (MME, DirectSound, ASIO 2.0, GSIF)

System requirements: Pentium or AMD CPU (or compatible), mainboard based on Intel, AMD or VIA chipset

The other card I was thinking at was Audiophile but the guy is runing Duron based system and last year when I asked from m-audio support they said they had this (big surprise) compatibility problem with VIA chipset... Is this still a problem?

Thanks guys

Riku

By the way I did ran the search on this bbs before posting this ;)

I haven't heard too many complaints about VIA lately....I don't see why the audiophile wouldn't work. But if it doesn't work, you will run into problems with any pci soundcard for your particular VIA chipset.

That is what I was thinking about. thanks j

I'm gonna recommend that he would buy the Audhiophile. It costs a little more and he would have to by a preamp but I think it's worth it.

the MAYA44 sounds tempting, you can get it with 169 euros while audiphile is 229 euros here in Finland.

I hope he wont burn me If his VIA screws it up :D
