Anybody boned their guitar?

I boned my guitar…got it pregnant…now I have to pay child support for a bunch of little Strats. :(

I did trade my ex wife for an acoustic guitar. It has a smaller hole and smells MUCH better.

Both my Martins have bone nuts and saddles but I'm not sure about the new Taylor. I'll have to check into that.

Last time I had my firebird re-fretted the tech put on a bone nut. But, I think it may have had one before, so I didn't notice any change. I asked him about a brass nut (that's what I really wanted) but he said that every time he made one it ruined all of his tools, so I'd hafta pay for those as well.

I have to look into this, my strat's G sounds like it's being held down with toilet paper when I play it open ...

In my opinion the bone really mellowed out the sound on my 12 string alverez. I bought it brand new several years ago and it is really starting to mature in sound. (Believe it or not it came with plastic)

I'll bet that's a Strat with only one string tree (on the 1&2 strings). Yes? If that's the case you'll need another string tree installed to stop it. My strat has the same problem, but I didn't want to make the change. Sometimes I like to pluck that G string between the nut and the tuning peg.

Firebird I bet that makes a really cool staticco sound (when done properly in the proper stop on a tune) I will have to experiment with that. Do you only do that on the G or on all?

The G is the only one that sounds right to me. I like to play it over something like a G7, sustain it and use the wiggle stick a little. It makes sort of a screaming/crying sound.

Firebird I would love to hear some of your stuff if possible. I am intrigued by that.

Let's not hijack this thread, I'll PM you about it.

I made a nut out of a piece of corian that I had laying around. Since Gibson had a cheap plastic nut originally, the strings really gouged it almost to the fret board. Anyway, the corian made it sound much brighter, which is something this guitar needed.

So if you want to try something different, you can go to the home depot and ask for a swatch of corian. It's just a little square, maybe 2" x 2", but it is a perfect to make probably 3-4 nuts.
