I´ve got a vs880ex stand alone daw but hate it for not having wave view edit possibilities...nor a decent sofware to work with when it comes to wave view edition,(...Logic VS only does cut´s and deletes;:and its really a shame for such company...)

Then i´ve found this add on a "M-audio R-bus" that is supose to "...transfer audio and midi information within R-Bus compatible devices..."so i might be able to import the 8 audio tracks already recorded on vs and then edit big time inside my pc sofware,right?...

I´M I GETTING THE CENNARIO RIGHT?...

So i can import from the vs into the pc,edit, sendit back optimised again into vs for mixing or else....
Please wont you help this strugling homerecordist make another step towards perfection...
THANKS!

Do you have a midi port?
Do a search on the roland forum and you can find the settings posted on syncing and dumping tracks to your computer.
If you have a midi port and a quality analog or preferably digital set of in/outs you should'nt need any additional hardware.
I don't know what you plan on using for software but once you get into the computer you might not want to take it back out.
I hope he does'nt mind my dropping his name but Chucku was extremely helpful in helping me set up my 880 with sonar you might want to look him up.

Hang on to that 880 its a hell of a machine and it will continue to serve you well even if you move on to a daw.

GOOD LUCK

wait a minute man ,dont go away,...let read this first,i´ll have some questions after...::)

yeah ,i have midi, sure, but it only syncrs my pc sofware(cake9)to the vs880.
when you say "..dumping tracks.." is that to record them again OR extract the (like copying a file..) in from the vs into the PC hard disk,a MIRROR COPY OF IT?
I have Logic Audio VS but ..Wave edit on that is a joke...

thanks for that link,...

By the sound of it you have all the hardware you need, you just need some kind of software to dump your tracks into.
Yes I guess you'll have to record it into the software.
You might want to hold out for some better replies than mine.

I use my 880 as a input mixer and as a midi controller for sonar, plus I LOVE THE EFFECTS.

I do'nt anything about logic but it does'nt sound like it's doing the trick for you.

I´ll try to be simple, what i need or want,is to

-edit the audio i record inside VS within the PC ,using Soundforge ,kind´like mastering or optimizing each track with all the tools ...then send it back to vs for mixing again.

-REAL WORLD CENE; I´ve got 8 Drums tracks converted from midi into audio ,all this within the PC,FULLY NORMALIZED SOUNDING LIKE THE DRUMER´S FOR REAL ...now i want to do the same to all my bass, guitars, vocals, that i´ve recorded on VS...BUT as the format roland uses is not a standard wave code i just cant IMPORT the damn thing into the PC.::(

THATS ALL RIGHT,THANKS,REALLY..

Yes sync it with mtc and record it to your software via your analog or digital outs .
Now what matters here is that the sample rate has to be the same on both apps to use the digital connection.
If you have a clean analog connection you could use that but imho the digital would be preferable.
If your synced with a program you can go back and forth as you please between the 880 and the pc.

yes,it can be done like that,but,to record 1st generation on VS and then recordit again(2º..)onto pc hard disk,and record AGAIN (3d..) into VS...8 TRKS X 8 X 8 = Time,Signal degradation,mismatching of volumes on the process,noise floor,have another cigar,its a bit of a drag,isnt it..''::mad:
there should be a way to Import the tracks just as any other Wave file

If you go digital it's no problem at all,no different than internal bouncing or track copying.
Your point would be true if you went the analog route.

Digital is an exact copy of the track just a bunch of 1's and 0's.

yeah, you´re right at that, that was my "next step" last week, buy a pair of optical and coaxial cables and syncr. tha damn thing...but then i saw that R-BUS thing from M-AUDIO and though..,this is it,...but then ..i dont know if it is.::confused: :
I agree with you,it´s a fantastic machine I love my VS,it was a birthday gift from my father::,and i will keep it,but wish it could just Edit those waves a little better...!

Okay just checked m-audio's site this r-bus works with roland equipment that has an r-bus out, which an 880 does not.
I believe this is similar to adat transfer cable thingys that can transfer 8 channels at once.

I could be wrong,it's happened before.

yeah..,you´re absolutly right,i´ve ask someone about the r-bus transfer..it does 8 tracks at once, but unfortunely VS800ex doesnt have that kind of interface...so..i have to think of something else diferent now::(
THANKS MAN..!
