Are there any En-Voice users, who use the En-Voice together with either aN At 4033 or a C1?
I'm very curious...

Is the En-VOice btw good enough for micing guitar cabs, or does it suck there?

Oh, and which asswipe keeps rating ALL MY threads 1 star?
This is a very informative and helpful thread....

I hate to interrupt this Joe Meek "orgasm",

damn.....and i was almost there!

i don't see how you can go wrong by getting a meek. I have a korg recorder too and I LOVE my meek, its made an unbelievable difference in the sound of my recordings. you can get the warm vintage sound with the opti compresser and e.q. or just go with the pre by itself and get enough clean reserve gain in the hole to blow up you d16. Im going to get a RNC and i will be set.

other things that the meek excells at: a live gig...plug your guitar into the meek, go out to your guitar amp, crank the opti compresser.....then watch jaws drop at your guitar tone....harmonics and sustain for days.

plug in those so-so sounding yamaha electronic drums into the meek with some opti comp. and e.q......the fuckers sound like real acoustical drums (even the cybles).

the opti compresser is slow....you can get that steve miller effect where the breath in between the vocal lines are louder than the vocal lines themselves....like on the song "keep on rocking me baby"

Jimi, have you tried your Meek on acoustic guitars too?
What mics do you use with it?
I'm doubting between AT-4033/Røde NT1000 and C1...

I use the C1 with the Envoice and the Meek. The result is excellent - like one would expect. I can't tell you about the other mics though. So, take my input just as the opinion of a guy who's happy with his gear ;)

MCR, you said you use the Meek now more than you use the En-Voice. But how 'bout *soft* vocals (for rock ballads and such), wouldn't the Meek be too aggressive for that?

And, if you had to choose one of them, as your *main (colored* pre, next to an Audiobuddy or a DMP-3, which one would you choose?

The preamp on the Joemeek is very clean ... it's the compressor that adds the color.

Whether I use the Joemeek or the Envoice depends quite a bit on what I'm recording. For instance, I generally think the Meek sounds better on my wife's voice; both for ballads as well as faster songs. Her voice is "present", without much air but hasn't got the volume I like. The Meek adds that certain volume or thickness a makes her voice sound "stronger". My own voice on the other hand, being in the Bariton/mid-range, has quite a bit of volume. I can sing very loud without making myself sound like a screaming fool + my "timbre" is rather full. Basically, I like my voice the way it is :D ... the meek pre with the RNC (or the Envoice) therefore suit my voice a little better as they don't overemphasize the "thickness" aspect (for lack of better words).

However, I prefer to use the Meek pre together with the RNC. Whenever I decide my voice needs that little hi-end shine, I simply make use of the Meek enhancer rather than switching to the Envoice.

Thing is that I usually record one track at a time. So, under most circumstances there's only limited need for me to use the envoice. If I only had the envoice I'd be very happy, too --- just not as happy :)

Like speeddemon and burgundyband, I want the TwinQ and the 4033, and I also record mostly heavy distorted guitars...

Just go my Meek TwinQcs...

Haven't tried it yet...

It's green and very purdy....

Nice VU meters....

When I hook i up with my new mic (to be picked up this weekend) i'll let y'all know how it sounds...

It's got purdy green, yellow, blue, and red glowing lights, too.

yeah, it's an ugly thing .... even uglier than my RME Multiface. Why is it that great gear has to be so hideous?
