ok.... i just bought a new sound card, it's a sound blaster Audigy 5.1, and was looking into a small stereo system to run though into the input of the sound card.I 've played around with running into a practice amp, then into the inline input. it sounds ok, but mono. Has anyone got any tips, i want to go pretty cheap, this is just a hobby. I've got two guitars, a boss drum machine, and a bass, and im recording to acid 3.0. One track at a time, the same way you would with a 4 track. I just want to make sure......... i have a safe setup, and get fair records from it.

The SB's are really not designed for recording but will do ok. The key will be setting up the cards input levels and output in conjunction with the mixer in your software and the output level & gain of the input device. Mono is ok...you can convert to stereo if need be.

Can you go into a little more detail, im just really frightened of blowing something up.

Oh you were just saying to get good recording sound, just get the right settings....ill just have to experiment??? Ok i got you!!

Im Back

Ok guys, i ve been playing around here again, im recording a song for a CD
comp.I ve laid the drum machine track down, by running it in the mic input,
then recording it on to acid 3.0.i ve tried using the line in but it's not in
stereo only mono.I still need to record a guitar track and a bass track. Should i go back to the method of just micing a practice amp, or what?? see going though the mic input scares me bacause i think that's how i killed my last card, but the line in........ is what i hear is the best to use.Ive also heard it's good to channel the guitar or bass into a pedal, then into the line input.taking down the oms levels to a safe level.

Im going to have to send the song by email or a messenger. So if anyone knows about how to convert the file to a mp3 on acid 3.0, that would help me out.I know how to make it into a quicktime file, but i dont know if that would burn to CD.Any tips on what would be the best way to send the file by email (wave, zipped wave file, or mp3)??

recommendations...
1. you could get various wave to mp3 encoders. some are free . try hitsquad.com.
eg lame for one wav to mp3 encoder.
i dont use acid but i assume you would mixdown to stereo wave in acid. then encode using lame.
2. drum machines should be plugged into line inputs.
if you want a stereo recording - in the software i use you select either stereo or mono. i suspect acid has similar settings.
3. for recording guitar. you can take your guitar into as guitar processor (eg behringer vamp) then to LINE INPUT of sound card.
4. for recording miced instruments and vox you will need a mixer or mic preamp. once again the output should go to line input of the sound card.
5. i use nero express that came with my dvd burner to burn cd's. but there are other free ones i think at hitsquad.
hope this helps. ps...think about a higher end audio card sometime.
as the other poster said.
