Dude rock snare? Listen to rock albums from the sixties to today and on nearly everyone you'll hear a different sound. For example if you want 80s sounds then you want ass loads of reverb and a gate. In the 90's it was all about the high pitched snares. In fact I was just listening to Slipknot and their snare sounds very industrial and hollow also sounds like a bit of reverb is peaking thru. I also just listened to a crossfade song the snare was a lower tuning(little lower than my liking) and also had a very hollow sound. It'll be easier to answer your question if you give us a more specific sound you're looking for, lots of ring, no ring, high pitched, low pitched. Also what kind of snare is it wood, metal, thick, thin. Sorry to give you crap but the term "rock snare" has a ton of different meanings and can sound different from year to year.

We need an example.

A rock snare can be a deftones crack.........or Led Zep deep thud.
