I'm using cakewalk home studio xl, got a p-3 processor with enuf ram, m-audio firewire 410, and have alot of lag in monitoring. could use some advice on soundcards

....home studio xl...which version? p-3...processor speed?, how much ram and at what mghz? you can go into cakewalk and look for latency and lower the latency to get rid of the monitoring lag somewhat..the only problem with that is you'll be proned to dropouts. also try going to 16/48 khz. that may help. how full is your hard drive? do you kids use the comp too? it could be full of some spyware that slows down programs.

p-3 660 , xl 2004, 256k ram, I'll try the adjustments, and my hard drive isn't even 1/4 full, got plenty of protection against spyware.
