Is there any reason not to upgrade to Adobe Audition (price is quite reasonable)?

I'm currently running CEP 1.2 which is used for editing, mixing and effects (I record a track at a time and then put it together in CEP). My only complaint is that is a bit crash prone (at the most awkward time). I don't want to have to relearn many tasks. Is the interface similar to CEP? Can Audition open old Mixing Sessions (SES)?

It will run on the following systems

1.
Athlon 700/512MB
WinXP Pro
Turtle Beach Santa Cruz PCI*

2.
Intel P 1.5Ghz/ 256MB
WinXP Pro
CL Audigy2 NX USB

* may upgrade to Audiophile 2496

Is Audition going to be sluggish?

Put the RAM from the first machine into the 2nd machine, and you'll be good to go, lol.

Actually, if you're running 1.2, you can have the exact same functionality with Audition, with little or no more drain on the CPU. However, if you want the goodies (like real time FX...which you do), it'll probably choke up just a bit on the first machine. (that's a guess). However, it's easy enough to get around by just locking tracks...

You'll be fine...do it.

I'm getting a new dedicated recording computer this week, and I literally CANNOT WAIT to load something into it and just run about 4 FX that I don't need on each track, lol.

OK I'm upping the RAM on my 1.5GHz machine to 768MB.

I really like the CEP interface, I'm going to download the Audition tryout.

My current complaints with CEP 1.2 are:
1. crashes at just the wrong time
2. have to switch to 2 track view for effects and editing
3. can't edit groups of tracks (like all the vocals)
4. can't add effects to a group of tracks (currently I'm doing several levels of MixDown)
5. no MIDI support

Other things I need (and it would be nice if Audition could take care of)
1. a better MIDI sequencer (than Cakewalk Score Writer - need to add more tracks and change instruments; soundfont support)
2. a better drum machine (than HammerHead with complex rhythms but retain easy adding of recorded samples)

but I really like the following in CEP (and would not want to lose):
1. ease of use (much prefer the interface for SONAR or ntrack)
2. the effects - esp. reverb and chorus

thanks
