Any preference with Mic Cases?

I'm going to get a mic case, for easy transportation of mics between two locations. Does anyone have anything good or bad to say about the Gator, SKB, Odesey, etc. brands?

I think so far I might get the SKB 1200. SKB is more expensive than gator, but It has a lifetime warranty. I don't think the Gator does. The comparable gator case, the GM-15 is about $15 cheaper than the SKB and holds 15 instead of 12 mics, probably with more storage space too. Can't find the comparable dimensions though.

Anyways, Anyone have any experience with these or other cases?

Thanks,

I run a pro audio company as well as my studio. In the past, we have regretted it every time that we bought or had a case that was not SKB (as far as the plastic molded cases go). We have had plastic molded cases from SKB, Gator, and MBT. Only the SKB cases did NOT break within 6 months. Usually it is the latches first, but the MBT's especially also had problems with the plastic cracking.

Yep, it's the latches. I've good luck with SKB as well.

Pelican cases are the best, in my opinion. Built like a tank, and can with stand the pressure of a car's weight. I use them exclusively.

And the pelicans also come with foam that is pre perforated that you can pick out to fit whatever you are carrying.

Big RAY...

Big Ray, What Pelican case would be similar in storage space and price as the SKB 1200? I think I can get the 1200 for $90 and it hold 12 mic's and has two storage compartments.

Thanks,

Pelican cases are great, but quite a bit more expensive, and considerably heavier. I am not sure that pelican makes a case similar to the skb case you are looking at. They do make some larger "suitcase style" cases though.

Same here with the Pelican's...air/water tight too.

I dont really know..ive never used anything but the pelican cases(as they are used widely all over the world)..but I am pretty sure you can find something that is equal in size or bigger on pelican's website. They may be more expensive(dont know for sure), but I have thousands of dollars in gear to protect..so cutting corners, money-wise for cases to protect my stuff isnt a concern/or option for me. Id rather spend more money on the best protection I can buy than worry about possible accidents. I have no idea about SKB...I was just throwing my vote in for pelican. The Army uses pelican for their gear, the navy, all the major sound firms in germany that ive seen use them, a lot of engineers use them, and ive used them for years. Pelican will also custom make a case for your gear. http://www.pelican.com/cases/cases4.html is the list of their main cases, and on that site is also a custom section. You can shop around and get them really cheap in some places.
