I am just curious as to owners opinions of these little guys.

My homke setup is comprised of Adcom amplification (GTP-502 pre and GFA5400 power) and THe NHT ST4 tower speakers. I will use these to do what ever little adjustments I ay deem necessary, but for some small speakers that are at least clear and detailed in the mid and high band and are cheap, are these worth it or are these just seen as glorified computer speakers??

Space is a concern for me, so I dont want monitors that are much larger than these, and budget is also a restraint (I just plopped a load on a new computer). I would however like to get some affordable nearfields that I can work with and not kill my budget until I am good enough to do better than my gear.

So that is why I am considering these. Other options are the Samson Resolv 50As and the Wharfedale Diamond Pro 8.1 actives. And for the next 8 months, Thats the most I can stretch to, so you see my dilema. I have songs I want to mix for me and some friends and I dont have a comfortable monitoring system to do so (and I am talking about 16 - 20 songs between us, not 2!)

Any help and recs are greatly appreciated!!

M-Audio DX4

I just bought a pair of Dx4s to go along with my laptop. Only just used them for a few hours but initial thoughts are pretty good. Bottom end isn't very deep, but then for a 4" cone that's what you'd expect. I bought them for a small apartment, and with the thought that I could add a sub later if I wanted. :D

They are certainly detailed and clear - straight away I could hear the difference between the standard headphone output on my laptop compared to the (higher quality) sound of my iriver MP3 player on the same files.

The other satellite / sub combos I looked at sounded more like hifi speakers (i.e very bright top end) and did have more depth than the DX4s, but I guess it depends what you want them for.

I've not tried any mixing / recording yet as all my hardware gear is in the UK and I"m just starting off a software based set up in the US - watch this space...
