I am trying to get some feedback on the sound of this mix. I adjusted some things that people critisized before. I am not really asking about the playing because it is not the final recording...more on the tones, drum sounds. I am going for an almost deathmetal heavy sound, but when vocals get on it, it won't be deathy... just really heavy metal. I want everything to be heavy as fuck but still retain clarity...am i on to something here.

i definately like the drive you put into your music,i can only lofi stream so as far as the mix goes i realy cant comment to much but the sounds i can hear are heavy as heck. i listened to all your stuff on lofi and i like it. sounds like very well written material and the singer has a voice i would love to have. if you like check out my new metal song i recorded it for the hour and a half thing so the mix is kinda sloppy to say the least,its christian metal so im not sure if its your thing or not. http://www.nowhereradio.com/artists/album.php?aid=1751&alid=-1 the song is called the one. and the song guitarmageddon is fairly heavy to but it is instrumental.

Nice Job

I have to say that out of the 3 songs you have at Nowhere, i like your hour and a half mix the best. Your vocals are really cool and i like the grooves you lay down on guitar. Are the drums programmed on The One, they sound real to me. Although i don't really own any Christian Metal, 2 bands you may or may not have heard of from that genre rule. ChatterBox-an industrial metal band that is really good, and i think the other is a band was Mortification-sounded alot like Sepultura in the Chaos A.D. era. Both awesome. Anyway your mixes are rally good from what i can hear...i am listening on cheapy speaker that came with my computor. Keep the tunes coming.

Analytical man,
im pretty sure i checked out some of your stuff before when you posted. It sounds like you are getting alot closer to the sound you are describing. The drums are alot more up front and in your face sounding, not near as weak as they were before.
This is just a preference thing but i would probably take a tad bit of the snare reverb off. It seemed like a little too much to me, might not be as bad once you get vocals going though.
Whats your setup for recording drums? just curious

Drum Setup

Well i have my small Tama 5 peice drumset that i use a combination of mics and triggers on. Nady mics for the overheads...which i want to replace soon. All my cymbals are Sabian Pro. Triggers are Ddrum, and Redshot Mics are sm57s. The module i use is the Alesis DM5 Pro... i want to upgrade to a Roland TD-10 though. Depending on what i'm after i mic different things. On this particular song i am going with the standard 2 overhead setup and all drums triggered so they really hit hard. I to was thinking that either the snare was too loud or it had too much verb. I'll repost when we redo it all with vocals and that good stuff. Thanks for listening!!!!

Just checked out the three tunes posted, and my first impression is that I love the drum tone... How'd you get it? Live drums or sampled?

I like the guitar riffs too, did you mic your amp or do a direct-box kind of thing?

I like the sampled/altered vocals in the first tune, but the rest of them aren't quite my taste.

It's good to see that there are people in Wisconsin who still rock!

just wanted to answer your question on the drums, they are loops. i wish i had a good way to record live drums though because the drummer from my band is awesome but being that i only have line in on my comp and a small mixer it just dont cut it. thanks for the comments analytical. and yes i realy like chatterbox and mortification alot. believer was also a awesome death metal type christian band that you just gotta hear if you can. cant wait to hear more of your stuff keep shredding my friend. god bless

The other dude is from Michigan...are you asking about his drums or mine. I am confused because both of us have 3 songs on Nowhereradio, but only one of us is from Wisconsin...and that would be my band, but he answered your post. So if you are asking about my drums they are posted up in here further on what i use. And i use a Line 6 Flextone 2 fullstack, and a Johnson J station for guitars. I am confused about who is talking about what music...later all

Sounds good dude, maybe a bit too much verb on the snare. Vocals sound really good..what was used? Vocalist reminds me of a little less aggressive Lajon Witherspoon from Sevendust. Good job...check out this shit....

Here's the scoop on what was used on these mixes:

All vox-el chepo Marshall MXL2000 into Mackie 1604 (for mic pre) then to MAudio Omni. Verbs, effects, compression is the stock ones from Samplitude.

Gtr were recorded direct from my Tech21 amp. Then I copied it to another track and delayed that track to create a big stereo spread. Bass recorded from line out of bass players amp (some no name brand I've never heard of :=)

Drums were all recorded with SM57's, and the Marshall for overheads (not the greatest mic set up...but it seemed to work)

I did all this for this local band for free since I've been out of it awhile. Let me know if you hear any thing else production wise I should be working on.

I'm putting togethter a new DAW around Sonar, so I will hope to be able to have more effects running and get some decent plug ins.

Analytical Man, I listened to a drug called hate. God man, I hear a little influence from every heavy band out there. Big time Phil fan I see. As for the tones. Hmmm... The drums, I'm not sure what kind of sound you are going for. Has a slipknot kind of feel. IMO, the triggers are ruining it. I think the kick sound just needs to change, and that song will be sooo sweet. I'm diggin it. Awesome song. I wish I could get that kinda vox going on. Mixed up at http://www.nowhereradio.com/soundprizm/singles is around my heaviness. Very different drum sound than yours. I quit because I can't fit my voice anywhere. Keep em comin tho man.... I love dat heavy shit...
