Any ideas on the mastering techniques for this?

Hey Dave,
I listened to both. Beautiful Day really could use a remix if possible. The other one, 238 seemed nicer but I could only stream it. It's hard to play back and disect when I can't download it.
I'm playing around with the first one to see if anything can be done to get the kick drum back.

The kick drum shouldn't be a problem. I'm remixing as we speak. The song isn't finished yet and thursday we are putting in some more backup vocals and maybe even something else that we have planned.

The new mix has more pronounced kick drum and more defined bass. second guitar has been upped a little as well.

i haven't made it downloadable as many others are listening to it, and I didn't want to make it downloadable until it was done and sounded decent enough to play in your car! so keep your eyes out on thursday or friday for a new mix!

Thanks for all the help everyone, your feedback is great.

PS asteroid 238 is up there for fun.....I have not mixed that one....someone else has.

Ok. I didn't realize you were still in the mixdown stages. The thread title eluded to mastering. The best mastering ideas that I can think of is not having to do anything. I'm not trying to be a wise guy, but if you get the mix right, you shouldn't need much in the way of mastering. At least that's what Bob Katz say's anyway. :-) However, I guess in order to be as loud as the mixes out today, you'll run it through a limiter.

I had PMed you with some more details of what I was hearing on this song.

Have fun! :-)
