I've been mixing this album for AGES now and I finally think I'm done. This has not been recorded in my studio BTW, but only mixed/produced(which is a bitch with this kind of music) there.
I'd like som feedback on the mixes, even though I realise this is not everyone's cup of tea, so to speak :)
It's been recorded in Samplitude and then transfered to Cubase SX.

thanks

heresy - good song! the vocalist is very good.. sounds like the drums are drowned out.. not the cymbals, mostly the bass drum and snare.. it needs more punch imop.. the sound is a bit abrasive in it's highs but this could just be the speakers I'm on right now.. the vocals are a little low.. it's also kinda light on the bass.. real good song!

intro - is that a banjo?

sure is :)

Thanks for the feedback! The drums has been a major pain all the way through. Especially the hi-hat which leaked into every damn mic we used.
The vocals are supposed to be fairly low, but not too much of course. IMO, it generally sounds better that way when the vocalist is screaming instead of singing.

yeah, people always tell me I mix the vocals too low.. I really think they could be a little louder here though.. ---> after the drums and bass are adjusted..

then again, maybe not.. the biggest problem is the overall harshness from the guitars.. maybe if that was tamed the vocal level would be good..

and yes, I also listen to heavy stuff.. :)

heresy is a very good tune!

well yes, your name is kind of a give-away :)

and thanks again!

harsh gits...

You're probably right. but it's a knife's edge - polish up the gitars and you might loose alot of atmosphere and kick-in-the-teeth. then again, a more defined vocal sound might give it some more over-all feeling and power.

The first thing I noticed was how "BIG" of a sound you got, in "heresy". I love the guitar sound. I don't mind the drums. I don't think they sound great, but they don't sound bad. The only thing bothering me is the vocals. Everyone seemed to like them, but I'd like to hear them a little lower in the mix with a bunch of background vocals and that would just push the song over the edge.

cool

i think you have a killer sound there....

but, i agree with sabbath, maybe just a LITTLE more vocals?

keep it up

BTW..my input is based on heresy :)

I love the guitar tone. Drums sound good too. Sorry for the short reply, I'm about to head out.

Maybe you could high pass the guitars at say 150hz or 200hz. I think they are sucking some of the life out of the low end of your mix. Or maybe you could just turn up the drums and vox and bass.

Oh I know. Turn the guitars down!!!! Are you a guitarist?? :)

They are really fuzzy, can you get rid of some of the fuzz? I think it will improve the clarity of everything else. Or maybe you could compress the "everloving-dog-poo" out of them.

In other words, I think the guitars are your problem.
