Hi,

New here. I have a little studio with a friend and use Akai S900, S1000 and an upgraded MPC-60 for sequencing but am kinda shy on good latin percussion sounds. I like to sample things live but congas and timbales and all are expensive so I was wondering if there are any nice modules someone who is familiar with latin music could reccommend? Or any good Akai sample colections? (prolly better).

I know of the E-mu Carnaval but I don't know if it is any good. I think a latin percussion module would have to be quite good to be useful and it's easy to make a bunch of dumb sounds but hard to get a bunch of useable latin percussion and ethnic sounds.

The Emu - Carnival was a fairly cool module I thought the latin percussion (and some of the trumpet sounds) were very authentic (I didn't see many applications for the various vocal phrases). I don't know what these go for used, but I would pick one up if I came across one in the $150-$200 range.

I would think there are several lost cost sample disks for latin sounds. Since most persussive sounds are a fast attack with limited need for longer samples they are relatively easy to sample.
