The man is just AWESOME!!! He can do it all. He is no Yngwie but man when he plays fast you can hear every note clearly. No mud, no blur. If you havent checked out his album BLUES ALIVE you need to do yourself a favor and get it!!!

Just the fact that he used to be a member of Thin Lizzy makes him an instant hero to me.

Very cool player!Thin Lizzy great stuff..Hes had a good long career too

Gary Moore is one of my favorite players. "Still got the Blues" is one great song; the melody is awesome and Moore's performance is incredible. I love his tone too!!! Great player.

Count me in as a fan, too.

Although I only have two of Gazza's albums (SGTB & After Hours) I really do like his playing. He gets panned over on UK.Music.Guitar news group for playing re-cycled 60s blues riffs, but I like his take on electric blues.

I'm not sure which Lizzie albums he played on, I have a suspicion he was on Roisin Dubh and possibly some earlier ones.

So has anyone checked out his Blues For Greeny album, and what did you think of it? I may have to include this in my collection if it's worthwhile. :)

Oh yeah, Ive been a Gary Moore fan for over 20 years.... awesome musician....

If you get a chance, listen to his remake of Roy Buchannon's "The Messiah Will Come Again".... Its one of the best examples of guitar playing Ive ever heard.... Absolutely brilliant....

:)

Ahhh yeah!

Got my introduction to him with the Corridors of Power album. The blistering opening to "End of the World" hooked me but good. That and Still Got the Blues are the only albums of his that I own, but he used to get a fair amount of air time on radio here (back when radio was still decent  ). "Over the Hills and Far Away," "Always Gonna Love You," and "All Messed Up" were heard often.

BluesMeister, from what I found over at allmusic.com, the only album he recorded with Thin Lizzy was Black Rose, but he was in the band two or three times as a touring guitarist. I'm ashamed to admit it, but I know next to nothing about Thin Lizzy, so I've never heard that album. Guess it needs to go on my Most Wanted list, eh? ;)

A great big "Duh" for me

 If I had re-read your post, BluesMeister, perhaps I could have avoided sounding like an idiot. I just realized and then verified that "Roisin Dubh" is Gaelic for "Black Rose." Sorry for my lack of oversight, dudes.

Man, you NEED to know about Thin Lizzy!!! They are one of the most under-rated bands in history. Listening to their stuff is like discovering treasure or something. They always had fantastic guitar players...Scott Gorham, Gary Moore, Eric Bell, Brian Robertson, John Sykes, Snowey White...Midge Ure (sp ??) Dual leads and stuff...man I love em.

I know, I know. It's not like I'm completely unfamiliar with them, though. I remember the first time I heard "Angel of Death" on good ol' WYER my freshman year in high school. I once borrowed Live and Dangerous from the library, but the only thing I remember about it was the riff and wah leads on "Sha-La-La," which were cool as it gets. But you're right, I'll do some checking and brush up on my TL listening. ;)

If you can find it they released a CD a few years back called
Dedication: The best of Thin Lizzy. You should pick it up because it is a pretty good overview of their career. Phil Lynott was an awsome songwriter, I was sad when he passed. Great loss.

I went to a ton of Thin Lizzy gigs back in Ireland, ..in the 80's post G. Moore.
Lizzy were just great....and I love the songs/band to this day!
The "Live 'n Dangerous" album is kicking...
...and one the best guitar solos ever, has to be the duet in 'still in love with you'......

Its ironic, but I have a double Live CD, don't remember the name, but Phill Lynott (Bass/front man) is singing "got to give it up" (song about alcohol abuse) recorded live in my home town, Galway, ireland, -and he later died of liver failure!

Any Rory Gallagher fans?

That album is called LIFE. I think it was their last. That is a great version of GOT TO GIVE IT UP. Phil was just great, a lovely chap indeed.

I used to have "LIFE"... man thats one killer live album.... the live version of "Holy War" just kicks ass....
The first Thin Lizzy album I ever bought was "Johnny The Fox" .. its still one of my favorites.....:)

Right now I'm listening to "Out in the Fields".. Gary Moore/Phil Lynott duet....

Totally awesome!

:p

Great how this turned into a Phil Lynott thread. :)
I have a big admiration for bassplayers who can sing simultaneously. That's so hard to do! Great voice, great songs.
I own only one Thin Lizzy cd but it's a very nice one.
The Peel Sessions.

Love Lizzy!!! I like Gary Moore too....

My fav, album is Thunder and Lightning... Fond it on cd several years back as an import. I think it cost me around $30.00. Worth every penny considering I had worn out 3 tapes:) I also love the older stuff. Phil was an awsome singer. I am pretty sure he had training because he can go pretty high and you'll never know it because he hold the same vocal qualitys all the way through his range.

Anyway

Later
F.S.

Did anyone ever see the "Behind the Music" on VH1 of Thin Lizzy/Phil Lynott??...
That was one of the best ones I've ever seen.... Kinda sad though....
