Any ex-Sonar 2.2 users out there?

I use 2.2 now and it works great. I plan on buying a new computer soon. While I'm at it, I had planned to upgrade to Sonar 5. The reason I'm hesitant is that a buddy of mine a couple of years ago got Sonar 3. I compared it to my 2.2 and I did not like it. It did not flow like my 2.2, any suggestions? Or should I keep what I got? Since I use a Delta 1010, I had considered M-Powered ProTools 7.0 (more users using ProTools, more collaborators, more work). Again, any suggestions?

In my opinion the workflow of Sonar was greatly improved with the addition of track folders, that naigation pane at the top, track layers, etc. I think that stuff came into play with 3.0.
Also, the buss routing is quite a bit more flexible. If I remember correctly, 2.x was fairly limited in it's bussing options.
Whether that stuff is important to you, who knows. For me it would be tough to go back to the 2.x workflow.

Sonar 5 is awesome. There are so many workflow enhancments, it's crazy!
I love it. I can't imagine what would be in Sonar 6 that I'd want/need.

I first bought Sonar at version 2. I'm currently using version 5. It's quite a step forward to me. It will be a big improvement to you if you are coming from 2.2. The sonitus effects suite is not flashy, but extremely useful and low cpu. The lexicon reverb came in version 3 I believe and its serviceable though I prefer the sonitus verb to it 9 times out of ten. The addition of track folders was really helpful as well. Thats something I never thought about, but after I had it I cant believe I went without it for so long. In the newest version you also get Psyn II which is a good quality VA synth, if you're into such things. There were some bugs in the envelope automation sytem in 5, but those seem to be worked out here as of 5.2. The audio engine has also been improved since 2.2. It's a pretty full package now. I think you'd enjoy the upgrade as it will add alot of cool new toys and functions for you to explore. I also use a 1010 and have m-powered as well. It rarely gets much use. It may be because I've used it for far longer, but I find that I'm faster at accomplishing what I want with Sonar. Besides, you already are familiar with the Sonar way of working so you'd be able to pick up all the new features pretty quickly as opposed to learning a whole new system. Hope some of that helps. :)

Thanks Van for the info. It will help me to decide on my next purchase.

I'm still on 2.2 because nobody can give me a info on how to get Studiomix to work in later versions the way it does in 2.

I started on Cakewalk 3 and now I am on Sonar 4. Talk about a big difference, there wasn't any audio to it at all, just MIDI. I had to sync up a black face ADAT to it via MTC for my audio tracks.

I was sonar 1.3 for years and finaly went to sonar 5. I passed up sonar 3 as I did not like the look and feel. I was just used to my old 1.3. Now I have used sonar 5 for 6 months and would never go back. Do it, you wont be sorry.

I still have 2.2. Of course, I also have 3, 4, and 5PE.

We are at the end of the cycle for 5PE. Sonar 6 will be out most likely in October. I really like 5. 5PE is worth it just for the convolution reverb and the soft synths included. Sonar 5PE will be discounted pretty heavily soon.
