Hey folks,
Ive been checking them out since theyve been coming down in price, and was curious to see if anyone around here had any experience with 'em.

...thanks in advance.

Are you refering to the Behringer DSP9024 multi-band compressor? If so, yeah, I used to own one. The presets....forget them. With some clever knowledge, the thing actually isn't a bad "mastering tool"....I use that term very loosly. The compression, when used correctly, is more transparent than you might expect from a low-budget unit. The manual is pretty detailed, and once you learn to navigate a little, it's simple to use as long as you understand compression properties etc. However, the tube simulators are complete and utter crap though. Don't even bother using them. With the tube on (any of them...I think it had 3) I couldn't even hear a difference. I mean nothing. And if I cranked it to where I COULD hear any processing, it was distorted and not good. The "exciter/enhancer" function is similar to a BBE Sonic Maximizer, although I like the BBE more. But as an all-around multi-band compressor, it was decent. I'd recommend you look into Sound Forge 6.0 or something like that instead, but to each their own. NOW, If you're talking about another piece of gear, I guess I just wasted my time!

IF YOU WANT TO HOOK IT UP to a monitor u also need a computer

darrin: how do you like the dps16? ...no glitches? Im interested in the dps24, but im getting the impression that akai might be discontinuing it. .....the price has dropped way low.

mike@cave: ....yeah, i knew that. Not too big an issue for me though

I've been watching the AKAI action, too. Those who frequent the DPS 24 user's group don't seem to think they are going anywhere anytime, soon. Some AKAI cats drop in pretty regularly, but what can they say without losing their jobs? I really dig using the DPS24, though the fx are shaky at best. Editing is cool, and the promise of supporting VST plugs (that's when you need the computer) is, uh, weird, at best. I can't find the damn bookmark for the user's group. Do a search, but I'll post it soon as I run across it...

shaky........? I havent had a chance to demo the effects end of the recorder. Do you have one Flo? What exactly is it thats weak in the fx dept?

First, i was thinking about something else when I mentioned no PC for VGA. Sorry. Damn attention deficit...

A friend owns one, and I've used it quite a bit.

I just don't dig the reverbs and shit as opposed to other things. However, I'd use them as best & much as I could.

I see you've posted in the DPS forum. Good enough, then. You'll find what you need there.
