ahhh... technics... mmmm.... drool... i couldn't live a day without my ol' techies

Technic 1200's (overseas 1210's) are the world-wide industry standard turntable.

I'm not a turntablist, but I do know a lot about sound. 1200's obviously have excellent "DJ performance" since they are so widely accepted as the best. But as far as shear sound quality, they are far from the best turntables.

It's a shame that someone hasn't figured out a way to combine truly hi-fi vinyl sound with outstanding DJ performance. Then again, maybe it's not worth it considering how quickly DJ's degrade their vinyl with constant playing, cueing, scratching and such.

What do you think Spin?

I agree with you on that note, barefoot (in terms of audio production). :)
The 1200's give a good frequency range. It also depends on the stylus and headshells a person uses.
I myself use different needles and headshells for different tasks (sampling, scratching, playing "house music", etc.)
It would also defeat the purpose of recording from an analogue device if the sample is too clean. :D

They have... and it's called the Pioneer CDJ1000 CD player.

When I did some scratching with these CD players, it SCARED me. :D

hey spin
waddup?

just outta interest what diff combinations of needles & headshells do you use for diff purposes?

with my lowly student budget i am limited to the trusty "old workhorse" the stanton 500 al-2 cartridge & technics headshells

oh & you lucky lucky bugger getting to have a go on the cdj1000's
:) :)

luke 14, WWWWHHHAAASSSSSUUUUPPPP!!!!!!! :D

Yeah, I know. They are fresh as H*LL. I just don't know if I want to spend the $1,200.00 each on them. :)

Well, to start it off, I'll share with you the ones I don't use. I don't use the ones that are an all in one unit, like the Ortofon's for instance (the ones that look like little skinny fingers). The reason being is this... they will F*CK up the arms of your 1200's. They will either corrode the 4 contacts inside your tonearm (because most dj's "lick" the back of their headshells before they connect them to the tonearms, (to make sure there is contact AND to increase the flow of the contact).

OR... the Ortofons will push in 1 to 3 of the 4 contacts inside of the tonearm, which in that case you will have to purchase a new tonearm. And that gets very, very exspensive. :(

Ok...
I use the Stanton's for sampling (wider frequency range).

I use the Ortofon's (the ones that attach to the the Technic's headshells) for playing in the clubs (they're louder).

I use the Shure's for "tricking" (I'm use to practicing with them :D ).

peace...

sheesh
i never knew that 'bout the ortofons ( the long skinny ones hehe)

always had my eye on getting a pair
although i have a friend who swears by the stanton groovemasters or track masters cant remember which ones but the roger sanchez signiture ones & he says he played with the ortofons once on a HUGE system & they gave so much feedback it wasnt funny

so you reckon for my purposes of nice quality for playing & recording my sets onto pc & recording a few samples off some records the prtofons that fit onto the technics headshells would be my best bet?

i have played with the sure's a few times & found them to be nice & loud :)

btw spin if you interested i have a new mix up at:
http://www.techno.co.za/djsets.php3

maybe you could download it & tell me what ya think? :)
