Any direct experience with Audiophile 2496?

My brother is ready to pull the trigger and buy an M-Audio 2496.

He has three lingering questions about it, for which he desires some real world anecdotes about its efficacy.

1) Compatibility with WinXP. Vendor assures, but any experience with the 2496 and XP is helpful.

2) Compatibility with a Dell Dimension. It's a newer low end box - P4 2.0Ghz, 256MRAM, 20GHD, blah blah blah... Any experience?

3) Bi-directional SysEx capabilities out of the box, although I think this is more software related than hardware.

If it helps, he'll probably be using n-track for the foreseeable future.

Any experience, positive or negative is appreciated.

Been using an Audiophile for a year with no problems in both XP Professional and Home on two different systems (PII-400, P4-2.26)...

Delta cards usually have no problems with Intel systems. AMD systems are another story (at least ones with VIA chipsets).

SYSEX functions have nothing to do with the card - thats all software. If n-Track supports it, the card supports it.

I personally don't use n-Track, but since it works with ASIO drivers, you shouldn't have any issues.

I agree, it is optimized for XP with good drivers and good tech. support. Tell your buddy he will be just fine with the AP.

I use one for monitoring (only!) on a Win2K, 1.6 gig, P4.......... no problems!

You're right about the SysEx question, Todd -- it's governed by s/w, not the soundcard!
