What's good ya'll. I was wondering if anyone can help me with some advice on recording equipment. I'm kind of a rookie when it comes to the actual production of a track cause all I use to do was lay down 16's but now I'm trying to get this thing poppin off for myself, by myself. If anyone can help me out, I'll appriciate it.

well we need to know what equipment you have to be able to help you out and what you are to do..ie. just record yourself, make tracks(beats) or what..

yeah, welcome to a wealth of info, also called HomeRecording\bbs haha.

let us know what you have now, and what you expect to accomplish other than "get this thing poppin off for myslef..." so we can assist you better.

First, decide whether you wanna go the way of hardware or software recording; the studio-in-a-box vs computer recording.

I really dont have jack right now besides an open mind and trying to get some suggestions on what people have actually already used or know about. I am just trying to record over existing beats that maybe I can upload from an MP3 file or something. I will probably invest further down the road into a beat machine or something to make beats. And for the most part it's software that I am looking for Windows XP. That help a little bit? Thanks ya'll

Okay, well the only way to get your voice onto your computer is with a microphone. You'll need a soundcard to connect that to your computer. And you will also need some kind of software program to record and arrange your track (even if it's just a voice over an mp3). This software is called a sequencer. Alot of souncards come bundled with a basic sequencer, and a sequencer should also give you alot of the things you need to go about creating beats if you wanna go down that road. So I would recommend these:
