Those of us on a seriously tight budget , and cant afford a vast array of mic's to choose from when recording need to know how well this plug emulates other mics...

Save your money my friend. I have it and do use it from time to time but NOT as a mic modeler. It's useless in that respect. The entire process is flawed as there is no way you can have a SM-57 as your source mic and then make it it sound like an Elam-251. Garbage in, garbage out. It does make audio sound different than when it went in but you can do that with EQ. There are MUCH bigger bangs for your buck out there, like a new mic.:D

I like this plugin. Dont expect to make your 57 sounds like a U87. It doesnt work.

But you can get really cool sounds with this plugin.

its really a Eq when you think about it.. its not a bad plugin, but as stated already it can't tern a sm57 into a at4060,u87,u47 what ever.. but it can enhance the sound of the mic you have

I got it for free off Kazaa, so I could careless.

WTF was the point of that? just a word of advice you wouldn't wanna advertise that kind of activities on this forum...

I concider this plug to be a classy toy. On occasion, I have found that it hits the spot, but most of the time its just a toy.

It can do some fun stuff and does sound good, and it can make a small mic collection less monotonous.....but its still a toy. In the long run you may be better served by saving that money and buying another mic.

With varied placement, a few mics can also provide a variety of sounds. I was shocked to find that one facility that I work with teaches their kids (teens using the studio of creative arts) just to use whatever mic and change it with the Mic Modeller. I put an end to that ASAP!

It can be fun, though, trying "mic" after "mic" to see which one makes that dead track sound just a little livelier.

Take care,
Chris

How does someone who steals software get rep points? So much for the rep point system.

Mic modeler is a fun toy. Emphasis on the fun and toy part.

OK, so lets just make it clear. When we download our programs from P2P, don't mention it online. I think the modeler could have been made more comprehensive. A graphical layout offering various positions, such as axis and off axis, would have been nice. Also, a wider variety of source mics would make more sense in the long run. I understand what Antares attempted to do, too bad they kind of failed.

Not only that, but with a pretty negative statement, but not enough balls to own up to it.

You guys didn't have to go out and do that:D I am not really worried about my rep points at all. Those people who know me and trust me won't be swayed at all by that crap.

But then again, thanks just the same;)

I have a pretty good idea who drug my reputation through the mud for calling a spade a spade:D

My only negative comment is by Sonusman, and is actually more of an honor than an insult =D

Although it might be more offensive if it was "you're horrible I hope you die" rather than just giving me a negative because I had none, so I could become a more balanced and seasoned recordist. Maybe.

Anyway, I seriously didn't know there even were rep points for quite a while.

I'll support your rep for that X!!!

Me too.

And as for the Antares: Antares mic modeler, 199.00-- Having all those eq presets to run your '57 through, priceless. (or is that worthless) It didn't do anything for me.
