Has anyone tried this, its pretty cool and Antares has a full version 10 day trial download. I cant decide on how good it is yet i have a session tomorrow so i'll find out.. ( Um sir what kind of mic would you like a Neuman or blah blah blah)
P.S. Here is a list of current mics AKG C12A; C414; C414B/ULS Limited Edition Gold; C414B/ULS Modified by Audio Upgrades; 460B/CK61-ULS; D112; C1000S; D790; C3000; C4000B
Shakes I have used it a little bit. Haven't experimented with it too much. Seems pretty good though. I used it on the most recent song I recorded, where I used it on an acoustic guitar part.
I recorded the part with a Rode NT2 through a Joe Meek VC3. It still sounded a little harsh on the high end to me. I ended up running it through the Mic Modeler and simulated a Neumann U47, and it seemed to really warm up the sound and take the edge off of it.
I haven't used any mic modeling units. I have my doubts about it; in the sense that even the same "microphone modeler" program will sound completely different, largely depending on your real microphone, preamp, media, cable, etc.
Which understand, I don't think that is a bad thing if you look at it more like as an effect; which can be anything from eq, compression, enhancers, simluators, etc.
R.E., is a mic-modeler supposed to imitate/copy the sound, frequency response, tonality etc of any particular mic it's programmed for? Sounds something like
buying a imitation Strat instead of the real 1. Or am I wrong?

I think that's pretty much it. It won't turn your sm-58 into a Neumann or my NT2 into a Blueberry. But, the way I think about it is that it's similar to, say, the POD guitar recording unit. No, the POD won't totally sound exactly the same as your Mesa rectifier... But, it does have MANY useful and quality sounds. In the same way, the Antares Modeler won't sound exactly like the mic you want, but it is useful.
