Hi, I want to record some songs for my band with decent quality- something I can put up online or hand out after a show, or use to hash out future pro recordings. It doesn't have to be great but good
System: AMD 3.5gHz 6core, 8GB DDR3 1600 RAM, 60GB solid state harddrive, 500GB 7200rpm HD with a huge cache, and Windows 7 pro. The sound and video(128MB on-board for video) are integrated. It has firewire, USB 2.0 and 3.0, PCIe, etc... I cant decide how to set this up.
Tascam US-1800 (US-1641) and be done. It comes with Cubase LE5 and has enough channels and XLR mic inputs for drums, and I can mix and edit everything in the computer. Least expensive but not so great preamps
Presonus FP10 -I hear the sound quality/preamps are better but I keep reading reviews about broken jacks and outdated drivers.
Focusrite interface- Good sound qulity but have fewer XLR mic inputs, so would I run the drum mics to 1/4" jacks or through a mixer or something?
Interfaces with fewer inputs or onboard interface cards - would require me to get a mixer for drums which might get too costly, and be problematic if I dont mix the drums well right off the bat.
Something else?
What do you experienced folks think is the better option as far as interfaces for basic entry level digital recording?
