another wall foam/bass trap question

i have recently set up my new monitors, and i am wondering if anyone could give suggestions as to how best set up foam/bass traps/diffusing material and where. from the research ive done, it seems like i should use at least one piece of foam on each side wall, halfway between the listening position and the monitor, one on the ceiling halfway between, and some diffusing material or foam on the rear wall directly behind...and then possibly bass traps also, im not sure exactly what i should do. i have a very small room and im sure the acoustics are horrible. anyone have any suggestions for the best setup? also, any suggestions as to what the cheapest options are?
