Another Volume Thread

I can't seem to get my tracks as loud as some of my favouite bands without it hitting the red. If I keep all the levels as high as possible without clipping and do the same with the master output, my track volume falls short of prouduction cd's. Is this fixed at mastering or do I need to get my volume up at export.

Without using the high end gear the pros do, you won't get the same volume as your favorite cd. Consumer gear is set and rated at -10dB, while the pro stuff is +4dB...

It's something normally done while mastering. Try using a multiband compressor to raise the volume on your final mix.

Had the same problem. But, I use Sonar. Try to peak at -3db. I thought at first if its red its not good, not true.
